Re: Reason update 11.3.7 & Reason+ livestream Wednesday
This would explain the removal of some Rack Extensions the last few days. RS said they were removing some things for licensing issues going forward. My guess is that the removed Rack Extensions weren't approved by their developers to be a part of the upcoming subscription plan.

Re: "Skeleton" UI for VSTs with no GUI
You might already know this, but if you expand the bottom panel of the VST device you’ll see a modulation matrix. If you click a cell and connect it to one of the VST’s parameters, you can use the amount column on the right to set static values. You can also connect CV signals to the rear to control...

Re: Redrum, Kong, or Rytmik?
Of those three, I use Kong more often. I'm a shameless patch browser so Kong's patch bank is hard to beat IMO. That said, I use NNXT for drums far more often. I love being able to load dozens of kicks into a sampler and use randomness to do crazy stuff. I like the filter and modulation capabilities ...

Re: What stops Reason Studios from making a new Combinator?
I think there are some quality of life updates that would help the Combinator. It would speed up sound design to be able copy and paste routings across identical devices. For example, if I want Rotary 1 to affect portamento on 4 Subtractors, and Rotary 2 to OSC type, it would be much quicker to be a...

Re: Sequencer question
If I was shooting for loops that were polyrhythmic and overlapping each other but still working at the same tempo, I would use a player like Kompulsion. Having different lengths for the sequences would give a lot of unpredictability. But if I were trying to go completely asynchronous and more experi...

Re: Player question
ok then, kompulsion set to arpeggiator mode and gate on seq 9 and pattern length 1 K endless.JPG Kind of works! It is low note priority only (I'd prefer last note priority!), and retriggers the envelope very time, and putting a CVPT in line after the Kompulsion shows that it is triggering outputs 1...

Re: invert phase, and sidechained gating—in rack w/stock devices?
That sounds pretty cool! As far as keeping the non-esses from triggering the gate threshold, I suspect you may be able to achieve it by patching a compressor on the sidechain signal *before* it hits the vocoder. I would try setting the threshold so that you only get gain reduction on those phrases w...

Re: invert phase, and sidechained gating—in rack w/stock devices?
Thor can perform both the phase inversion and sidechain gating. Cable your main audio signal to an input pair on the rear. Then in the modulation matrix, send the signals to an output pair with an amount of -100. This accomplishes the polarity inversion. For gating, click the scale column for the mo...

Re: Adjust velocity for different Kong drums in Sequencer
One thing I’ve been doing that you might also like is using Note Echo to modulate velocity. Set the repeats to one, mute the initial hit and use the velocity knob to non-destructively scale the note velocity. I like to use an LFO routed to a Combinator CV input to modulate the velocity real-time and...

Re: What do you look for in music? (Philosophical)
It’s all about atmosphere for me. Listen to “Blue in Green” or “Flameco Sketches” from Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. The sparse instrumentation, minimal note choices, the brushed texture the drummer is playing, the sound of the room, the noise. This stuff is as important to me as the chords and melody.

Re: Do you guys sell your music on Pond 5 or audiojungle? if not why?
What little I’ve sold has been on Pond5. Audio Jungle has more traffic IIRC, but their search tool is atrocious last time I checked. It prioritizes results that are already popular in each genre, so it’s nearly impossible for a new post to gain any visibility. Pond5 seems to have a more open system ...

Re: difference between rap and hip hop? if you can also describe me differences in choice of sounds in this music than
When I hear the term rap, I think of the vocals. When I hear the term hip-hop, I think of the style and tradition that encompasses the whole genre. So there are entire albums of music that would be considered hip-hop because of the composition and production style which don't even feature any vocali...

For those looking for a retrig option, you can patch in the free HaMu Mingler Active RE in the output path. Just connect the note and gate out of Evolution into the first input pair on Mingler, and the output pair to your device of choice. Activate the RETRIG button on the front panel and any new no...

Re: A built-in 'Auto-Ride Fader' feature like Waves Vocal Rider?
That would be a welcome feature in my book. You can build one yourself this way, though: You can split the audio signal off to an Mclass Compressor and route the gain-reduction CV out to an External MIDI Instrument’s CC input. Then use a MIDI loopback to send the CC signal to the channel fader via R...

Re: Cymbal Swell Patches
Using the RV7000’s reverse algorithm works pretty well for this. It can be synchronized to tempo up to 1 bar, so triggering a normal cymbal sample one bar early will yield a crescendo to the next downbeat. You can use the programmer’s dry/wet to balance between the rise and fall.

Re: some help with a Thor patch
Hello, I checked out the patch. In the modulation matrix, the mod wheel turns the balance knob between OSC1 and OSC2, as well as increase FILTER1's cutoff frequency. This seems to be the design of the patch. You can reduce or eliminate the ringing by reducing those two modulation amounts. Also, sinc...
