Re: Strange new midi issue
For anyone still having this issue, its to do with your zone settings. In Master Mode, hit the Edit button and enable each of the zones you want (usually all of them), but turn down the note limit to C-2 on all but zone 1. Make sure the zone MIDISwitches are all turn on while you're there. Should wo...

Controlling multiple external instrument channels
Hi guys. This might have been covered, but I couldn't find anything in the search. I want to control my external hardware synths using Reason and a master MIDI keyboard. By control, I mean using the master MIDI keyboard to control other MIDI keyboards in my studio vi Reason, both to play and for CC ...

Re: Poor PC Performance
This really is the key, and it's why I always feel like all of the "Reason is the wrong DAW for you if you have a heavily VST-intensive workflow/are mainly doing non-electronic tracks/etc." naysayers are just totally missing the point. The best DAW is whatever DAW you enjoy using the most, period. ...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Fun fact: as lean as Reaper is, I've never found it inspiring . At. All.
Fair point. Reaper is a totally blank canvas whereas Reason is more like a tinkers toy shop. Precisely why I'm so keen to find out if it's just my crappy machine and something I can fix or some other fa...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Well, the native synths should play better. Just did a quick and nasty benchmark on both platforms native synths - just loaded them up and played a single chord until something broke.... In Reaper with its native synth: 1260 record monitoring (before it started getting totally unrecognisable as soun...

Re: Poor PC Performance
This is all really cool stuff, but I'm presuming no one has managed to get Reason to perform anywhere near a well as Cubase, Reaper or pretty much any other DAW when it comes to large orchestral templates? Oh, and BTW - by 'orchestral', that doesn't' mean I only violins and cellos on every track. Th...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Let's stay on topic - this isn't an anti-Reason rant, it's about Reasons raw performance power when it comes to running large orchestration templates, something that affects probably 5% of its users. I think much of the problem could be fixed by Propellorheads introducing multiple MIDI sends, this w...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Thanks for the advice guys. I'm really bummed about Reasons performance issues with multiple VSTi instances. For me, it's not just a 'Kontakt' problem, even running standard synths, I'm lucky to get maybe 10-12 instances of Diva or RP Blue 2 running. I'm also not convinced its a PC hardware issue, ...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Cheers Normen, appreciate your input. I know there are neat tricks Reason does, but for every trick theres a bunch of annoyances even the most simple DAW gets right - like mappable keybindings! The big problem is, no matter how tricky you get with synth routing, theres a VST synth that sounds incred...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Hey guys, sorry haven't been keeping up with the conversation. Yes, I don't have workflow issues with Reason, I love the workflow, that's why I want to use it. The big problem is the poor performance with multiple VST samplers, like Kontakt, Falcon and Sampletank. Secondary, and this is specific to ...

Re: Poor PC Performance
Ah, that makes sense. But how come I can't even play the stress test template at all. I might get 1 second or so before the 'You machine is too slow' warning.

Poor PC Performance
Hi guys. I've just tried to run the Reason stress test project from years ago. Most people look to get a minute or so of playback time on really old systems using Reason 8. I can't even get mine to play at all, on a fairly modern system using 9.5?!? I've been testing Reason up against Reaper using t...

Sysex in Reason
Damn, totally gutted. Just found our Reason doesn't support sysex from the support people. I've just swapped back to Reason after the new VST support, now I can't use my external synths and might have to go back to Reaper grrrr. Any suggestions on how to control external synths with Reason? Are ther...

Keyboard map renaming
Hi guys - is there a way to rename the default keyboard mappings? Either in key edit or (prefer) drum edit, I'd like to rename the generic Note# to something that makes more sense, like Snare or kick etc. I noticed you can when using a Kong, but nothing else.
Cheers.
Cheers.

External synth patches
Hi guys - does anyone know of a good way to map the patches from an external synth into Reason - much like what a librarian editor will do? My MOTIF, for instance, has hundreds of patches I'd like to call up from within Reason without having to find the patch on the keyboard, then assign an EMI to i...

Re: How the heck do you resume playback from cursor?
Thanks for the replies. I know about the keyboard shortcuts, the problem with using the number buttons is if you accidentally double tap one you're sent back to the beginning of your arrangement - annoying as heck. I just want to use space to return to curse on stop - like every other DAW in the wor...

How the heck do you resume playback from cursor?
Hi guys - as you know, when you stop playback in Reason it stops dead, the carries on from there if you push play again. Why anyone would ever want to do that is beyond me, but how do you change it so stopping playback returns the playback head to the cursor?
Cheers
