Re: So I'm on a mission to learn other DAWs, and one thing I have to say about Reason....
Steinberg has that Backbone plugin I really want. But I'll check out Cubase sometime. Right now I'm pissed FL Studio crashed simply when I was toggling through synths while the melody notes were already playing and this is in THEIR synthesizer lmao. Such a simple thing to crash over, makes me think...

Re: So I'm on a mission to learn other DAWs, and one thing I have to say about Reason....
…the SSL mixer is very special in that you can toggle settings for all tracks from one window. Yeah. This is huge. This is one of the things I was getting at in this thread: <https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7532246>. One improvement I'd really like is to be able to adjust one chann...

Re: Physical Modeling Has Gotten REALLY Good
It's probably also important to remember that what we think a sax sounds involves the player as well as the sax itself. A player does things with the reed and probably valve manipulations that are difficult or impossible to do with any MIDI controller (even a breath controller). This is not to excu...

Re: Reason Equalizers
One thing I have not seen in any of the popular RE EQs is an obvious interface for dynamic EQ of the sort found in FabFilter Pro-Q. From a marketing perspective, I find that… perplexing. In a current project, I'm using a Neutron EQ preset for removing boxiness, and the simplicity and "non-destructi...

Re: Physical Modeling Has Gotten REALLY Good
I totally get the creative aspect . But this video and thread in particular concerns itself with the synthesis of real life instruments and the accuracy of which p.m. is achieving. I’m still getting the same vibes as when people were dialling in string patches on a Juno and saying how real they sou...

Re: "interesting" meters in rack devices
Some of the Players and sequencey devices offer a Pattern Length or Reset Step setting, which is helpful when working with unusual meters. For example, 5/4 or 5/8 would work with a pattern length of 20, 40, or 60. Ah yes. I recently became a fan of the 64 steps in Pattern Mutator and forgot about t...

Re: Physical Modeling Has Gotten REALLY Good
I really enjoy working with modelled instruments, but the appeal is not to magically sound like the real thing. It's simply the rich, organic quality of the sounds that physical modelling typically produces. They have a kind of substance, a realism (by which I don't mean realistic), that other synt...

"interesting" meters in rack devices
I haven't come across many if any rack devices which support compound meters or, for that matter, "interesting" simple meters. The main sequencer appears to support whatever meter one might care to attempt, but rack devices not so much. Also, I just learned this morning about ways to temporarily sus...

Re: Reason Equalizers
Thanks, but I want something which is built in Reason Studio. Therefore, it will use less CPU. If it is a rack extension, even built by RS, it’s the same technology used by everyone. I want to point out how cool it is that the developer of another EQ RE shows up to clarify the equal footing of a co...

Re: Physical Modeling Has Gotten REALLY Good
I can’t bear it. Those modelled violins and saxophones sound awful. I’ve spent a lot of time around acoustic instruments and to my ears it’s not even close. I can see the value for arranging and demoing and they sound fine buried in a mix... I suspect the real strength of something like Objekt is c...

Re: Can Anyone Update What is currently in development at Reason Studios?
No worries. The only reason I know any details is that my wife is half Swede and half New Yorker and she was avidly digesting the contrasting news out of both places early in the pandemic. My wife was literally getting photos from friends and family in Sweden doing things like eating at packed indo...

Re: Can Anyone Update What is currently in development at Reason Studios?
Barely 1% of confirmed Covid infections proved fatal in Sweden. Maybe it's a Nordic genetic thing - like the seasonal flu is just an inconvenience, so Covid was like slightly worse for them? No clue. It seems Covid is now regarded by health pros as not primarily respiratory, and the respiratory sys...

Whoa. Reason will scale VSTs? I had no idea. I should dig around in my settings and see how that looks.
But really I should stop using VSTs altogether. Bad integerpoet! Follow your own damned policy!

Re: Keeping an effect the same when converting it from a send effect to an insert effect
As I understood it, using one send effect for multiple channels is much more like sending them all to "one room", and using insert effects (each one potentially different) on each channel is much more like putting each of those channels in discreet rooms with their own acoustics and effects. No? Ye...

Re: Ozone Elements Zoom
Apologies if this was the first thing you tried, but can you grab the corner of the VST window and drag to resize? I don't have version 10, but version 9 has always behaved normally for me. Me too for Ozone 9. I look at it waaaaaay too much for my own good. But I'm on macOS, so my data point probab...

Re: Keeping an effect the same when converting it from a send effect to an insert effect
…my tracks often incorporate speech samples from many different sources, and I've found that it helps to have several different reverbs and several different delays as sends for these. One tricky bit about sends (which I deliberately avoided covering in my earlier post for the sake of pedagogical s...

Re: Keeping an effect the same when converting it from a send effect to an insert effect
I don't know the original thinking behind the way sends work today — or even why they came to exist in the first place. Somebody had to believe they might be a good idea before going to the trouble of building the first (analog) circuit. Maybe someone like Selig will come along and school us on the...

Re: Keeping an effect the same when converting it from a send effect to an insert effect
A send is simply fundamentally different from an insert. I understand this, but I don't understand in what way it's different. When the effect is used as a send, it seems to smother or blur the original signal more (which in this case is what I want), whereas when the effect is used as an insert, i...

Re: Keeping an effect the same when converting it from a send effect to an insert effect
Yes, imho the easiest way would be to first create a parallel channel and put the (former) send FX there as an insert FX. Then you can easily level it to your liking. This. A send is simply fundamentally different from an insert. Routing a mixer channel to a bus with only one input might be the clo...

Sun tans and alcohol addictions I would imagine. It's still summer. Things will pick up again in September. I figured the lore about Swedes and summer was probably exaggerated. But then I visited Stockholm in summer and then the following Christmas. Totally different cities. And I am not talking ab...

Re: I'm letting my R+ subscription expire
One of the things that keeps me on Reason-the-DAW is that I don't enjoy managing a library of libraries of VSTs.
But I get the impression since the advent of RRP that RS won't consider you disloyal for switching DAWs.

Re: I don't know something...
I once did a cover of "Enola Gay" by OMD. Because of course I did. Rite of passage, right? Two things shocked me: I thought it was simple just because it's dance-y and the production is spare in a vaguely post-punk-y kind of way. It's. Not. Simple. I mean, compared to a Rush track, it's simple, no d...

should be possible for RE to be a channel strip's main EQ
This is definitely a deeply meta post which is likely not actionable by anybody reading this, but I am haunted by these thoughts and I hope to exorcise them by typing them here. When I summon the EQ window built in to the DAW, I often wish the window were populated by an RE of my choosing rather tha...
