Re: Announcing Reason 13

Some people in this thread have worked in software development, and have seen both well and badly managed products, and know what it takes to deliver the types of things people are asking for. They have a more informed vantage point than many who are disagreeing. Not all of us went to college for a...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Decompressing and Decoding Compressed Audio Files takes additional computational work if done in real-time, unless the DAW converts Compressed Files to WAV on import. Cubase will convert compressed files on import, for example. So will WaveLab. Samplitude Pro X defaults to doing this. Lots of DAWs ...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

... Converting samples to FLAC isn't really something I'd personally ever do for a couple of reasons: 1. If you decode them in real time, they use up more CPU than WAV/AIFF files, and 2. While many DAWs do support importing Compressed Audio, many of them will forcibly convert them to WAV - so, you ...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Both lack even more features than Reason (Maschine is not trying to be a DAW). Neither of those are marketed a Studio DAWs. Both Maschine 2 and MPC 2 are Grooveboxes for sampling, beat production and sketching. Many producers will sketch in Maschine or MPC and then bring things into a Studio DAW fo...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

What other vendors are you seeing do this? I have a lot of plug-ins, and literally none of them do this (save for the aforementioned Melodyne). Reason is the only application that installs gigabytes of data there. The only other exception is Melodyne, which I always fix by simply editing the plist ...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

They install stuff to the user music directory, which is kind of like rubbing salt into a wound. Not only will you have to waste system disk space on it, but now you have to manually tailor your backup strategy with exceptions, etc. to accommodate them throwing Gigabytes of data in the User Music d...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Wasn't it the case that Mp3 support (reading Mp3 files) in Reason was solved by functions of the operating system's media libraries? So if FLAC is supported by Windows and MacOS etc., it could easily be integrated into Reason in the same way. Maybe read my post above, explaining that Windows does N...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Windows has system-level support for FLAC, just like macOS. You are wrong on that, and the devil is in the details. Native support is different from being able to install codecs. MP3 is available on Windows, but you have to install a codec for that, same with FLAC. Although the FLAC algorithms are ...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Mhhh, but why? Do they want us to leave the ship to get rid of their long time DAW users?? :puf_unhappy: No, I don't think so. They need every Penny, but I can imagine that it's hard without all these brilliant people from the Propellerheads days. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I can't see any kind o...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

My RE folder is about 40Gig but it's SymLinked to another drive, as is the factory soundbank folder. Works well on Windows but I seem to recall reading that you can't do the same on a Mac. RS really should just add an RE location setting in the prefs menu. Putting huge data files on the OS drive is...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

Didn’t expect that they did it the easy way by using system functionality. My guess indeed is that they use the FLAC-support that is built-in in the Apple OS. Implementing native FLAC-support should be a no-brainer, especially as the FLAC format license is a free-for-everyone affair, and the algori...

Re: Announcing Reason 13

As for this upgrade, it's a HARD NO for me. All personal opinion/takes . Others can spend their money on what they find is worth it to them . The Sequencer Changes are basically just visual changes. They don't move the sequencer forward - functionally. The browser would have to be on par with Steinb...

Re: Reason Studios 13 or 14 (Future Talk)

Personally, I think v13 is going to be a fairly substantial sequencer update. How much it's going to inch it towards the competition is the only thing that up in the air to me. I cannot imagine them not going in that direction for the next (upcoming) release. While the Rack is nice for users who wan...

Re: SuperBooth 2023 Confession - Reason is for starting an idea

The writing has been on the wall for years RS is going back to focusing on being an instrument in a DAW instead of improving as a DAW. They end game is to create so many unique instruments that competes with Native Instruments Komplete price point $599. RRP is the future. I have to wonder though, i...

Re: Reason 12.6 Released (Apple Silicon, Offline Mode)

Good they got this out. Don't think I will reinstall it, though. Uses too much storage and you cannot move these heavy rack extensions to external storage...

Which basically forced me to replace most of the stuff I'd use via the RRP with discrete VSTs that have sane installation strategies.

Re: Why is Reason Lacking in so many popular DAW lists for 3rd party products

Within the 5 min and 45 sec did he say "Reason"? Maybe I missed it while he was going through the list of supported DAWs. Scalar seems to work fine in Reason for me. You can't use Scaler 2 to drive other Instruments in Reason 12, so you're limited to dragging and dropping MIDI out of Scaler 2 and o...

Re: Reason Studios 13 or 14 (Future Talk)

💯, we've got it really good as music makers. And you can get all the sounds you'll ever need to make chart hits for $10 on Plugin Boutique. Few can remember that Pro Tools offered the first free DAW back in the 90s. Unfortunately it was the most unstable software I've ever seen. It got loads of bad...

Re: Voluntary group for DAW improvements

A most excellent suggestion, I second this. Of course, Pooh Bear has been doing this for years for the nektar controllers ( and such a good job too). It's fine if you use a Nektar Controller - like a Panorama - with a larger screen that tells you what is mapped to what. For using other controllers ...

Re: Why is Reason Lacking in so many popular DAW lists for 3rd party products

Even if Reason is behind on sequencer features which just makes it different and admittedly off putting to many, that should not stop the staff at Reason Studios from reaching out and networking with 3rd party companies. Reason may not have all the bells and whistles as other DAWs but it is still p...
