So, My other DAW is Cakewalk, which uses VSTs. So I can only use the effects but not the instruments?

Am I understanding this correctly? I have Reason 12. Can I bring the rack into my other DAW as an instrument/effect? If so, how is that done? Please forgive what probably is to you an elementary question but I'm still new to this program.

Is there a way I can export MIDI from Reason for just one channel (instrument). When I try to drag/drop a MIDI clip onto the desktop it brings the entire song in a single MIDI file. I'm just trying to export say, a keyboard MIDI part. If there's a way I'd appreciate some help.

Set the playhead where you want to paste before you paste the clip. Maybe the confusion comes from the fact the play head moves when you copy a clip? When I copy a MIDI clip and paste it, it always pastes the clip after the original location I copied from. How do I get it to paste the clip to the location where I want it to be? I already know about Ctrl+Shift. I just want to paste it where I put the cursor.

Yes, using the ‘inspector’ at the top of the edit window. You can also select a range of notes and use key commands to raise/lower pitches a semitone or octave at a time, which also gets around the issue of hearing all the pitches as you drag a selection.
