Re: RE: Re: For the users that think Propellerhead just focus on Mobile App
They are dressing these recent things up in marketing hype as some revolutionary answer to mobile music making, when in fact other mobile apps are already leading the charge. Propellerhead dramatically overstating inconsequential things?? Noooo :p I don't have any ios devices, so haven't had a chan...

Oh yeah...I do wish someone had told me sooner though, it's impossible to make music like this in Reason. That's clearly why my stuff doesn't sound as good as him. So much wasted time!! Aaarrghh

I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I was just watching his performance on KEXP. Cool to hear him talk a little bit about his creative process too.Pinkbox wrote: Seriously, go see this guy live if he's playing in your town, he's incredible.

Wow, that looks incredible! I tried out this RE when it first came out and really liked it. Ended up making a song with it...which I haven't been able to do anything with since my demo expired lol.

Re: For the users that think Propellerhead just focus on Mobile App
I can understand the marketing approach...in theory. But if someone's downloading a small, free (or close to it) app to play around with on their phone, that's a pretty huge leap to then be like, "Oh, well check out our $400 fully-featured, expandable studio software!". Maybe some people go that rou...

I really wasn't fishing for compliments, but thank you guys. I hadn't heard of Jon Hopkins until that other thread, but I'm really digging his stuff; right up my alley. Another artist to feel inferior to! Lmao, jk. I just need to do my thing and keep getting better and not worry about it. Thank you ...

Re: Post-production Blues
Yes, I sometimes feel this, and almost always think a project 'sucks' after smashing it for 6 hours at a time over 3 consecutive days. This is pretty much exactly what I usually do lol. Stepping away for a few weeks after the initial creative burst allows some fresh ears to re-evaluate it, so you m...

Re: The commercial value of Reason
LOL is that really a "thing"? Get that warm, crunchy 16-bit sound  Bit depth only defines the S/N ratio, there is no "crunchyness" to low bit rates (there is no "stair steps"). Most of this impression of "8 bit sound" comes from the fact that these old synths mostly used square waves. I was be...

Post-production Blues
Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this... When I'm working on a new track, I'll be really into it and excited about it right up until I've "finished" it. Even then, I'm usually still pretty happy after it's done. But almost without fail, 24 hours or so later, I hate it. It's garbage...

Re: Where Do Old Tracks Go When They Die ?
This reminds me that I need to go through a lot of my stuff that never developed past the 8-bar-loop thing and just bounce out any good bits as samples. Then just delete the project file. It would probably be a good weeknight "house keeping" type project. Might try to start on it tonight...

Re: BIG SALE in the PH store
Oh man, why do they have to tempt me?! I've decided that (for me) Reason is best for sound design and songwriting, so staying away from mixing/mastering stuff (4Dyne, GQ-7, etc.)...I'd still really like to get a "character" EQ and comp, Titus (seems like a no brainer), and maybe Futzbox...? But omg,...

Re: eSoundz: Miroslav Gold ReFill on sale for $59!
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I'll probably pick this up. Back in the day I tried out the Miroslav refill and the Sonic Gold stuff--wasn't a fan of the latter, but thought Miroslav was great. I don't do stuff that I would normally associate with orchestral sounds but I can still see it being very useful...

Re: Good stuff in the Reason manual
Interesting you brought this up. In 5 years of using it, I don't think I've ever actually read the Reason manual...maybe I should. However, just today I was reading the manuals for a couple REs, namely Polar and Ozone Max. I generally can make sense of how most devices work, but it was really helpfu...

Re: Whats your Fav synth RE?
Antidote is my #1 favorite, without a doubt. Not just my favorite RE synth, but my favorite softsynth, period. PX7 is awesome too, especially for solid sub basses. But for much else, I have a harder time getting it to fit with my music. I probably need to explore it more. As a side note: I had an ol...

Re: Tutorials and getting stuck
The most helpful tutorials for me have usually been the more general ones--rather than specific to one daw/device. Things like general mixing approaches and techniques that can be applied to anything. So that I learn the concepts behind what I'm trying to do, rather than just the "turn this knob on ...

Re: Mono Mixing
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with most (maybe all?) Reason devices you if you only connect the Left Output, it will be mono. That's how it is with most hardware synths, drum machines, effects, etc too. In a lot of situations, I also like to use the Width control on the mixer channel. Especially for ...

Re: An uneducated question on Antidote
I just wanted to add: when I'm working in Reason, Antidote has definitely become my go-to synth for my main, up front musical parts...ie bass, poly, arps, leads. I'm sure that a more skilled synth programmer could get very similar sounds using Thor (multiple instances, most likely), but Antidote jus...

I think the MOTU Microbook II has it too. I've been tempted to get one, because they also have some great audio analyzer tools built-in that could be really useful when using Reason.

What are you guys using for reference monitors?
I'm frequently tempted to buy a different set of monitors, but I'm still using my first gen Mackie MR5's. I don't know how "good" they actually are, but when I demoed monitors at Guitar Center, they seemed more balanced to me than the KRK Rokit 5's that everyone was buying at the time. I know it's n...

Interesting that a lot of people seem to be pairing Reason with Studio One. I demoed it a long time ago and liked it, but never took the plunge. I might have to check it out again soon. Actually, Reason is still the only DAW I've ever spent any considerable amount of money on. For a couple years now...

Buckethead, Metal, Guitar Rigs
I can second Snugglepuff's Kuassa recommendation. I haven't bought their REs yet (I plan to), but was really impressed when I demoed them. I think I like them better than Guitar Rig 4 Pro, which I've been using for a long time. Do you own any pedals? Digital sims do need some help sometimes. I like ...
