Interesting news and congrats to ROLI and FXpansion for that strategic move. I think that this is a pretty good match of two - not too big - innovative companies. Good luck guys!

Re: Hi hat mixing question
Oh sorry I forgot to say. I'm using samples. And I'm not going for it just sounding louder. I'm going for that awesome "sizzle"quality I hear in the 70s and 80s hi hats. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk To achieve that kind of sound I can highly recommend to utilize a Ring Modulator. I often put ...

Re: Using a gate on a parallel channel
Bit of frustration today with using a gate in the Dynamic section of the SSL mixer on a parallel channel, for some reason it seems to not work at all, except for the LEDs lighting up. I thought I was going mad until I took everything to a new channel and it behaved the way it should. Is there somet...

Re: What is your vocal chain
Thanks Marcus. I had a second hand k2 mod to buy and then the seller gave up. I'm considering buying it brand new. Did you mod it or is it with the original tube? Honestly, I'm not geeky enough to modify any of my music production tools because in my experience virtually all the recording and mixin...

Oh i totally forgot about the analogue chain... The available mics for vocals at my studio are several SM58 and Beta 57's for dynamics, Studio Projects C3, Audio Technika AT4047MP, Oktava MK 319. My available pre-amps are TLAudio5052, Focusrite OctoPre, Maudio Octane. Marcuswitt, how are you liking...

in 90% of all cases it looks like this: recording path: microphone selection: either AKG C414 or Audiotechnica AT4060 or Røde K2 or Shure SM7B fed into a Focusrite ISA430mkII and/or a SPL Frontliner mixing path: Main Mixer's HPF, RV7000 with an IR loaded that was taken from my recording path, RE-2A,...

Re: Softube TSAR-1. Best reverb for acoustic instruments?
Convolution reverb is not as good as algorithmic reverb. If that's just your personal opinion then I'm absolutely fine with it. But if you meant it as a general(ized) statement then I totally disagree with you. Moreover, I bet that - in a context of a finished and "polished" mix - nobody would be 1...

Re: Softube TSAR-1. Best reverb for acoustic instruments?
Don't forget the AD480, its a very nice, realistic reverb, not too pricey and reasonable in CPU use. As for IRs, they are great to copy real room sounds but not so great for copying reverb devices which often modulate their parameters to get a more dense sound, an IR can't capture that. E.g. you ca...

1) Test Manager for "Head Units - Audio Mixing" at BMW. Putting the filling of tons of Excel and other formal sheets aside, this job means lots of music and sound the whole day long, plus test-driving the newest vehicles, which can be quite exciting. ;) 2) Single Parent Exciting too, but in a differ...

Do you use Antidote? That's exactly the right question, Harald. :) @ the OP: If you (mainly but not only) want a very convincing replica of the "Lately Bass" patch then get the Antidote RE and Soundcells' Refill called "Antidote Signature", which you can find here: http://www.soundcells.de/products...

Re: How do you organise your Refills?
Hi there, I've got quite a few refills bought over the years. I'm sure others have too. In fact, the number of refills makes it hard to navigate. The new R9 organisation is really nice, with all sounds split into basses, leads etc. This isn't possible with refills, of course - they are so different...

Re: Is there any real value in buying hardware?
My answer to that question is this: It really depends on several different things if there's any value in buying hardware, such as: 1) In which field of audio production do you work, i.e. music recording, music mixing, audio post production for film or TV, field recording, Foley recording, Radio or ...

Re: Spiderman's "Electro" Voice? Approaches to Character Sound Design in Reason?
@the OP: Interesting example of a mangled human's voice. To reproduce this I suggest to try two different things. First of all put one instance of Neptune in the insert slot of that Audio Channel, which is 'fed' by the Audio Track that contains the original recording of a human's voice that you want...

Re: Reason 9 is ridicubad...
I think if they addressed latency compensation for parallel channels they'd address 99% (if not all) of the issues I have with RE induced latency. :) Indeed. And IMHO the remaining 1% would be addressed if automatic plugin latency compensation would be applied on Group Channels (Sub Busses) or rath...

Re: Recording Editing and Mixing in Reason vs Pro Tools
I use Reason for virtually any kind of stereo audio production due to its lack of supporting surround sound formats, particularily for composing and producing music. For bigger recording projects and/or surround sound projects I prefer MOTU's Digital Performer 9 (DP9) because it is highly customizab...

Re: Synclavier V sounds wonderful. Sales would go through the roof if this was a RE
I haven't looked at the Synclavier V in greater detail but my spontaneous thought is that Zero could probably mimic some of those sounds considering that it uses both FM and an additive synthesis engine. I agree with you to a certain point, eXode. I've owned and played a used Synclavier for about f...

Hi Cat, yes, it's true that LPP is officially not supported by Automap. But in fact they are functioning together pretty well. The only thing that doesn't work well - or maybe I haven't figured it out yet - is changing the Pad's colors depending on the LPP's mode. Nevertheless, I'll be waiting for y...

Hi Cat, interesting thread and thanks for the additional you've provided. I find it interesting because I'm running the Launchpad Pro (LPP) with Reason, in my case via Automap 4.9.10b, though. Since you can program and save your own functional assignments within Automap, it's not too difficult to us...
