Why do you use OctoRex?

One of my favourite things about Dr Octo Rex is the filter. Really wish it was possible to run external audio thru it

A very good essay on working with DAWS

I suspect that lot of this sort of argument boils down to professional gatekeeping. "I paid my dues, invested in thousands of $$$ of gear, spent years working as a studio engineer and painstakingly developed a range of specialist skills. Now, anyone with a bit of cash can set themselves up as a wann...

A very good essay on working with DAWS

Interestingly, you could say very similar things comparing the pre-multi track days to the days of endless overdubs, syncing multiple machines to further extend track count, recording musicians separately instead of as a group, extending the production process from days to months or even years, pun...

What do you love most about Reason?

The infinite studio.  More gear.  More sounds.  More options. I can afford a master studio.  In my pajamas.  Kid in a candy store. Yeah this is pretty much it for me. Specifically (and keeping REs out of it): The rack CV routing capability Malstrom Thor Pulverizer The combinator (but guys! can we m...

Do you think we over-reacted?

I think a lot of people over reacted R8 did not break anything except maybe patch browsing There are a few (that I know of) including myself that have submitted detailed feature suggestions as to how to address this issue. Hopefully the Props are listening! :) Good to hear! The patch browser issue ...

Someone should do a good Randrome tutorial

I find this RE frustrating because I really want to make the best use of it, but the manual is hard to understand (for me) and while there's an interesting demonstration on YouTube, it doesn't go anywhere near unlocking the full potential of the device. I can make it do basically what Randrome Jr do...

Selig DeEsser - other uses (besides vocals)?

I like that you can send the sibilance to its own mix channel and process it independently. Obviously great for routine studio use, but also opens lots of possibilities for interesting "niche" effects.

Selig Audio Entire Product Line 50% off!!!

How come if any other developer has a sale, the internet almost crashes with the number of people batch about how they bought [device X] only a month ago, and demanding that they be granted some sort of special retrospective discount. Selig has a sale, and people are lining up to say they're GLAD th...

REs that are worth EVERY PENNY spent.

ebop wrote:Bought Antidote not so long ago but never seem to use it. I think it's the patches that sound a bit too trancey.
That's my experience with nearly all the synths, 95% of the patches are awful (for my purposes anyway).

Revolution Virtual Surround is in the shop!

IMO it's worth the $40 I love being able to place sounds (or move them around) within the stereo field that goes beyond the parameters of L/R/wide/narrow. It's easy & fast to use, low on CPU and great for use in dense, complex mixes. Plus automation can give pleasingly weird results if that's your t...

Reason upgrade dealbreaker

I upgraded on impulse. I'd thought I wouldn't get 8 at all because of the patch-browsing issue (no Cancel function), but then I came across a cheap upgrade on eBay or Amazon, can't remember now, and thought it might be worth it just to have the Softube Amps. So I upgraded, spent a couple of days pla...

Haas Mixer in the shop

I'm enjoying hooking up an LFO to the L-R delay CV and making subtle adjustments for a tape-warbly effect. Also, cranking the range to 99% and automating it with a square wave can give a nice rhythmic pulse. I dunno, sometimes these REs are great for all sorts of unexpected reasons.

Little LFO. Extremely versatile unit and ridiculous value at $15

Korg MonoPoly. One of the best synths in Reason and only $50

The Jiggery Pokery audio and CV splitters/mergers, what are they, $9.00?

Revolution Virtual Surround is in the shop!

I've just spent two hours with a simple tabla loop in Dr Octo Rex, routed through two Revolutions in parallel, moving everything around via CV (Revolution #2 receiving the inverted mirror image of signals going to #1). One tabla loop, two hours. Loving this RE.

Interesting device, I'm not sure that the 3D modelling is completely convincing but as a weird stereo imager it has all sort of cool applications. Seems like great value at the price too. Becoming a big fan of DLD - Snakebite and the AS-16 sequencer always seem to make it into my tracks, and this on...

I ? Reason, and The Beatles

My parents got me into the Beatles too. Mum was an opera singer and dad was a massive jazz snob, so it was kind of a surprise when they brought home Abbey Rd. Blew my mind right open, I used to listen to side 2 on infinite repeat until I'd get chased out of the house to play outside.

Why online communities always seem doomed to fail

So long live ReasonTalk and I'm looking forward to meeting many new folk to add those I've already met.  Doomed to fail is a bit of a stretch really as a failure of a community is only ever caused by enough individuals having unmet expections whereby the purpose of a community no longer exists.  Ju...

Why online communities always seem doomed to fail

Interesting article, refers to forums on media sites, but points 1 --> 3 are pretty spot on in the context of Props' recent decision to close the user forums.
