Exactly like you would run (I really mean "run" the program in standalone mode) any other software application on your computer. As far as I know, there is only one type of VST, be it effects or instruments (also known as VSTi). The only thing is Reason will only support VST 2.4 (the SDK is currently at v3.6), but most plugins are still 2.4, and many DAWs haven't adopted VST 3 yet.

They are in the soundbanks. The soundbanks can only be opened in Reason but there is nothing stopping you from recording them on audio tracks then bouncing them. Alternatively you could also rewire Reason to your DAW.

Don't think I will. Still on 7, but using Reason less and less. That said, I think this is a good Reason upgrade, especially for the Reason-centred producer who skipped 8.

The OP is definitely correct. Reason has, if I've done the maths correctly, a theoretical maximum Music Greatness Points throughput of 2380, and from the Music Greatness benchmark tests I've seen, even the best songs (by some famous artists that are known Reason users) top out at around 1750-1800. ...
