The trick is not making it sound ‘distorted’ in any way, but adding sustain and definition by way of saturation.

Have you tried using a bass amp simulator? Its usually my go-to if i need the upper bass harmonics to stand out. I'm trying some set ups but what Selig said is true, when you have a good sample bass the sound is already there. I think i'm over complicating things. But i'm still experiment some stuf...

Thanks for the replies. The ScarBee bass sounds great but i'm using reason 8 - no vst. I've notice that some bass synths looks good at first but when you check the low part it's just a hollow undefined sound. I'll focus on the low to get the right definition because if this is not right the rest won...

In case you didn't know, if keyboard override is activated, you can right click on a parameter, select "edit keyboard override" and create custom shortcuts, like for transport, dim, all solo off etc... my favourite is clear clip.

But i don't use MIDI keyboard just the notebook keys...

I know mastering it's not just about limiter but... I compared one of my mastered tracks with the rough mix putting them at the same level. The un-mastered track sounded way more transparent. Then i just used the knob volume, +12 db of gain, - even cliping the wave form - and still sounds way better...

And here it is an all time hit. I wouldn't say it is a bad mix. Although it could be better - like everything else. The thing i don't like much is the production. It's too simple - almost poor. Only an acoustic guitar hitting all the time doing the base. I miss some clean guitar doing some nice cho...

This is a track I've always liked and always thought, "Oh! This could sound so much better".
Perhaps they wanted to sound too big but ended up being drowned by it.
