Re: New to Reason: Which order to learn the synths in?
The order in which synths were introduced in Reason, through the versions: - Subtractor - Malstrom - Thor Subtractor and Thor contain features most associated with subtractive synthesis. Malstrom is kind of in a class of its own, using "graintables" (a variant of wavetables) as its sound source. As ...

Re: Is RE's losing steam?
REs have not lost steam for me, not in the least. Here's why: My available time for music making has been limited these past 12-18 months. Nevertheless, I've been on a steady RE acquisition program all through that time. It's got to the point where, as I'm working on a song: (a) Finding the RE I'm l...

Re: Tips for using Softube's FET compressor?
Re: Using the FET and LA-2A together, I actually like it the other way around, using the FET before the LA-2A to catch the peaks so that the LA doesn't start to pump and just smoothes out the signal after that. Yeah that's a good idea there. Judicious use of the FET in this scenario gives more cont...

Re: ARTURIA answerd a message on Porting Mini V2 to REASON
Seconded! A Matrix-12 RE in Reason, with CV ins/outs on the back, would be a thing of beauty.bpmorton wrote:Why when there is Viking? Thor is pretty capable at doing Moog emulations as well. I'd rather see the Matrix 12.

Re: Tips for using Softube's FET compressor?
Addendum .... I've heard it mentioned on here that somebody uses the FET in conjunction with Cakewalk's RE-2A, I'd be curious if anybody else does this, and how they go about getting the two to work together. Since the FET has such a fast attack time, it would be better to use it as a limiter than a...

Re: Tips for using Softube's FET compressor?
From the Sound On Sound article on Mix Compression (May 2008 - https://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may08/articles/mixcompression.htm) "FET compressors use a particular type of transistor to control the amount of gain reduction, similarly to the way a triode tube works, and are not as widely used for mi...

What's your favorite creative effect in Reason?
Polar Uhbik-G ("Graindad") The Echo Neutron Audiomatic Echobode Synapse Ninety Chenille Inevitably, when I'm going for electro strangeness, I end up employing some combination of Polar and Graindad. The Graindad can impart some really special weirdness to your audio when you incorporate LFO modulat...

Is Antidote really that good?
Every synth available in Reason (either native or RE) has a sonic signature that differentiates it from all the others. For my money, Antidote is the go-to synth for what I call large-scale pad timbres. (Large scale = big, massive-sounding, lots of animation). I agree that the effects are also fir...

RE license transfer to non nternet DAW
If your DAW is not conveniently situated in such a way as to connect to your home wireless network, I suggest you purchase an inexpensive USB wireless adapter device, such as this little Netgear thing... http://bit.ly/1FsC3bF (link to NewEgg site) Once you have a USB wireless adapter installed and c...

Why an RE maximizer/limiter over the M-Class?
While compressor/limiter devices in Reason all do the same thing to a greater or lesser extent, the algorithms and math that each one uses to achieve the effect are not the same from device to device. It's a classic case of 'there is more than one way to do it.' As such, each compressor colors the...

Red Rock Sound's Ivoks and C1-L1 sale! ($ 10 off!)
I just went to the store and tried to buy C1-L1, price in PayPal came up $45 USD. Maybe the store price has not yet been updated? (As they say, I will) try again later. Normal price seems $ 55. $ 45 should be sale price. D. Thanks, I see where I screwed up - didn't notice the '35' price was Euro ...

Wow, they even have my Reason 2.0 upgrade purchase in there... Since REs were introduced, I've kinda gone bonkers with the purchases. To Ozone or no to Ozone?
All the limiters in Reason (native and RE) have their relative strengths and weaknesses. Speaking from personal experience: I like the warmth imparted by the tube limiter setting in the Onyx RE. When used judiciously, it does some kind of magic to the signal that my ears really like.
