Re: To Upgrade Or Not To Upgrade

I appreciate the various perspectives. The idea of being inspired into new directions appeals to me.

To Upgrade Or Not To Upgrade

I have been a very satisfied Reason user since it was a synth rack for many reasons (pun intended) and for the first time, I am not planning to upgrade. Here are my three reasons: 1. None of the new player devices appeal to me. They are primarily designed for non-players. That's perfectly fine, and ...

Re: Abbey Road Keyboards Refill for Sale

I completely agree. There is no indication at the Amazon listing that the item is new or that the used book store selling it owns the license. If you can find it new for less, that is clearly the way to go.

Re: Full MPE support (Roli users unite!)

Could Blamsoft's Distributor RE be used to enable MPE? You could set the pitch bend separately for each voice. This should work in single channel mode since each successive note would routed to a different sound source.

Re: Living With Deer - Instrumental rock fusion

Thanks for the help with the link and the kind words! I think it is the prog/jazz player's fault. There is nothing inherent in the instrument that would favor playing lines in a particular way. Steve Adelson might fit the bill of the more open flowing lines.

Living With Deer - Instrumental rock fusion

Based on a true story, this piece features an Emerald Amicus 12 String Mandoguitar, NS Chapman Stick, Zendrum, Radical Piano, about 20 instances of Ochen Carve, Kuassa EQ, and samples from Toontrack and Orange Tree Samples accessed through the EM1. soundcloud.com/jeremycubert/living-with-deer Thanks...

Re: Cities of Babel - Instrumental Prog Fusion

One problem with the saxophone collection - it uses their proprietary plugin (SWAM) that only works in a ( non-reason) DAW. The Trumpet will work standalone in kontakt and was easy to use with Reason through the External Instrument.

Re: Cities of Babel - Instrumental Prog Fusion

The company is "Sample Modeling" and the plugin is "The Trumpet". I also have their saxophone collection which is amazing. Here is the website: http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/index.php

Re: Cities of Babel - Instrumental Prog Fusion

Thanks Benedict and Marketblandings! The fretless instrument is a Godin MultiOud - an 11-string, nylon string, fretless instrument based on an Oud. I used the Variax for the Banjo and Coral Sitar sounds. The trumpet is a Sample Modeled plugin which is amazing. I am still working on the realism in my...

Cities of Babel - Instrumental Prog Fusion

My latest Reason song features Reason Pianos (Steinway), Chapman Stick, AAS String Studio 2 and GS2 for violin and lead guitar, Superior Drummer, Line 6 Variax for sitar and banjo, and the Godin MultiOud. Thanks for listening. https://soundcloud.com/jeremycubert/cities-of-babel Sent from my iPad usi...

BFD Jazz and Funk ReFill - Released!

Greetings all! I was very happy to contribute a few tracks to the demos. I have been waiting a very long time for jazz drums in Reason and this refill went above and beyond my expectations. They are exceptionally dynamic and the programming Jeremy and the team did is outstanding. I look forward to u...

Thanks so much for the kind words! Jon is great to work with a very nice person.   "From A to B" was a lot of fun and I can't believe how long ago it came out! It is available on iTunes and Bandcamp and at this point I am almost out of the CDs.  In between, I have recorded with the bands Zapotec, Ac...

Cup of Silence - More Reason Prog

I agree with all bands listed and would add King Crimson, Genesis (up to ABACAB) and Jethro Tull to the list.  Gentle Giant took the concept even further although ironically Derek Shulman (their lead singer) became a record company executive who can be blamed or praised for signing Bon Jovi (dependi...

Cup of Silence - More Reason Prog

I think the rhythm section in prog music, generally speaking, does not have a pocket in the same way that other styles - especially if time signatures shift.  This piece starts out in 9/8 and shifts to 6/8 and 7/4 in other spots.  I have been already updated the mix and drums several times and will ...

Thanks! My songs tend to cross genres.  This one has a lot of contrast between the harder edged parts and the softer, acoustic sections.

Thanks! I may revisit the drums. As it so happens, my prog band Formativ does have an album out. Most of the sounds on this tune are from Reason - the piano is Reason Pianos (the Steinway grand):
