Re: Kontakt->IDT conversions

I don't have a problem with PH taking a cut, but 50% for a premium sample library seems kind of bonkers to me. That's a huge chunk, even if the PH shop offers (as of writing) 100% piracy protection... especially once you factor in the work involved in re-scripting and UI development for one specific...

Re: Kontakt->IDT conversions

Adam, i'd say it has taken off, as Project Sam, and Soundiron Emotional piano are probably that case. I don't know if others might have taken that road, but i would like East West and other sample developers to get into this. Ahh, see - they were right under my nose and I missed them, haha! I tried...

Kontakt->IDT conversions

So... I recently succumbed to a Black Friday sale and picked up a Kontakt library I'd had my eye on for a while, which I have absolutely no doubt I'll get a ton of use out of. Then I remembered - wasn't there talk of IDT-based REs being able to be created from Kontakt sample libraries a while back? ...

Re: No love for Reason?

PS.: Man, i always dig your sound, and i remember people trashing reason older versions all around and i always thought that your stuff was proof of the contrary. And your sound design work with Nucleus Soundlab, maannn (your stuff and Tom Pritchad's and Jeremy Jansen, are really groundbreaking - E...

Re: Confused about "Discover"

I don't see it as a professional collaboration service or anything like that, but a place for people to have some fun with each other's ideas. I remember people going apeshit about not retaining full rights to whatever you upload, which I guess is fair enough. I guess I just never saw it as a place ...

Re: NI synth: Flesh

Much like The Finger before it, I would imagine this could be a lot of fun for live performance or improvisation. Haven't tried it myself, I share your concern about the range of sounds it can produce. Certainly seems like it'd be fun to use, though!

Re: No love for Reason?

Hilarious. I can't believe the whole "Reason sounds plasticky and thin" nonsense is still a thing. Let's just say that I think it's rather telling that, in all the years I've been putting out albums and such, nobody has ever said "hey Adam, I like the music but the mixing and production sounds reall...

Re: What Features Reason has and others DAWs do not have?

(It's too bad the graphic design for most REs is not up to Reason's standard, because that does in fact degrade the experience for me, but then graphic design in its own right is just as difficult to get "right" as coding.) I agree with that whole-heartedly. I know a lot of people are of the mind-s...

Re: Wish List

Ableton seems the most promising. But then there's having to switch all my songs over, transitioning Reason MIDI instruments, all the money and learning curve I've put in, mixed with their slow feature trickle.. Honestly I feel like a hostage customer! LOL There's nothing wrong with looking outside...

Re: Wish List

I'm not the kind of person who wants "more, more, more" from his music software - Reason's workflow is a big part of its appeal to me. That said, the one thing I would really like to see more than anything else in Reason now is a bigger focus on modularity. For starters, I would absolutely love to s...

Re: What's the worst thing you've had to put up with at a live gig?

Lol, reminds me of the singer of "In Flames" in Wacken. He's standing on the warm, dry stage with a neatly clean, ironed white shirt, we're all standing in dirt in the rain before the stage and he complains that it smells like fart on the stage but tells us that he'll pull through anyway - big appl...

Re: What are you watching at the moment? (possible spoilers)

I've been watching Twin Peaks. Never watched it before, figured it was about time. Unsurprisingly, I've grown rather fond of it! Saving finishing "Jodorowsky's Dune" as it's really fascinating. I don't want to watch all the "good" stuff because then I'll crave more and then be bummed when there isn'...

Re: What's the worst thing you've had to put up with at a live gig?

Oddly enough, this wasn't something that happened directly to me while performing... but I still get unnaturally angry when I think about the time I played in a band and we supported another band whose lead vocalist YAWNED on stage during a performance. Generally speaking - and without wishing to so...

Re: What Features Reason has and others DAWs do not have?

Universal undo is a big one for me. I use Studio One for VSTs and sample sets that I can't use in Reason and it brings my piss to a boil every time I accidentally do something stupid, press CMD+Z to undo it and watch as stuff starts disappearing from the sequencer. It's such a simple thing, and I kn...

Re: The Forgotten Natives of the Rack

I'm still loving the old half-rack devices... particularly the Spiders, ECF-42, and PEQ-2. Sometimes the unison will get a look in. I really wish there had been an option to release REs as half-rack devices - the first thing that springs to mind for me is how the Saturation Knob would have been much...

Re: 14 Ways For Musicians To Beat Creative Block

October is a very inspiring month for many creative types - not sure why, but I've always felt that way and have met many others (one more with you, Adam) that also find inspiration in the Fall, particularly October. I've been using Live for the past week or so, which has been a ton of fun and I wa...

October is a very inspiring month for many creative types - not sure why, but I've always felt that way and have met many others (one more with you, Adam) that also find inspiration in the Fall, particularly October. Re: Mastering

As always, any "issues" are best fixed at the source IMO. A great mix doesn't need mastering (unless again you are talking about a collection of tracks). A great track/recording doesn't need a lot of fixing/mixing. A great song doesn't need a lot of "production" to make it work. And so on. This is ...

Re: 14 Ways For Musicians To Beat Creative Block

This is a really good list. Lots of useful stuff in there, lots of stuff I wasn't even aware that I was doing :) I've had a bit of an annual ritual for the past four years or so where I basically just hole up for a good chunk of October and see what pops out (musically, of course!). I'm not really s...

I didn't know that about the APC40 - I'm using the mk 2, and I must be honest I haven't even tried it with Reason yet. That said, it stands to reason that it's primarily designed to work with Ableton Live - it's even got the Ableton branding on the side. I'll have to give it a try with Reason at som...
