Don't knock free VSTs... I've seen plenty of masterclasses from respected producers who swear by some of them.

That is both very funny and very depressing at the same time.aeox wrote:I just sell music on edmghostproducer.com. I've found that that is the quickest way to actually make money selling music. Especially since the music I sell, I don't like at all. I actually can't believe people even buy it.

Plus effects. Any particularly large effect chains? Things like reverb especially can be CPU hogs.

Bandcamp This little baby is growing up quickly. A LOT of artists I follow seem to be using it more and more these days. The choice of different audio formats is really nice, plus the "name your price" format is cool. A lot of people will obviously grab your tunes for free, but I noticed the other ...

I'm always sceptical about things like this. Personality can shift rapidly, especially when dealing with others. If someone has just cut you up in traffic you are more likely to have a negative view on people, whereas if your crush has just said yes to a date you're more likely to have a positive vi...

Good sounding samples are key, no matter what genre you're making.
Though I am a self-confessed sample junkie. A very good friend of mine recently gave me some of his paid for samples (naughty) from various dnb/dubstep orientated packs, and I nearly kissed him. The joy.

Yeah why wasn't ganged faders added in Reason 7 along with grouping? it's a pretty basic feature really. Most daw's have had this for probably about 8 years and we're still waiting. Before anyone says bussing, this is an entirely different process and not the same thing, and I don't want to create ...

I've noticed recently that the amount of annoying-as-fuck ads on Soundcloud has gone through the roof. Someone is paying for these ads so I can imagine Soundcloud's revenue has jumped through the roof recently. That being said, online services are notorious for being short lived and unstable. If Sou...

Prioritise. Sometimes things have to get thrown out the window.
I'm in the same boat really. I want to get so many things done, makes having only 24 hours in a day a sick joke.
EDIT: repeating myself.

Re: Mix Not Translating to Car, Help Please!
I, too, strongly recommend using reference mixes. Thirded. My tunes were dreadful until I figured this out. It's amazing how poor your own ears can be when trying to be objective. Using a reference track to quickly A/B is probably the most effective way to combat this. No problems with subjectivity...

Yeah colour coding helps. Re: Reason EDM producers, how long to create a track?
A lot of the producers I know, as well as from what I've gathered from the big guys in videos/interviews, is that a track on any DAW can take between a few hours to a few months to complete, depending on the producer's preferences, genre, and complexity. Another thing I've gathered is that you are m...

Re: Props should give discount on R9 upgrade now
I was sorely tempted by the black friday deal that they had with R9 + a ton of rack extensions. Problem is, most of the rack extensions I wasn't really interested in, and it was still pricey (something like €300?) so I left it. Propellerhead please feel free to do a nice discount just for plain old ...
