Re: Name the Synths

The keyboards in the video are of course just being used as props as they mime the song. Both keyboard players in the video have Fender Rhodes electric pianos on the bottom. The guy on the right has what I think is a Korg Poly-ensemble on top of the Rhodes and the other looks like the PPG already me...

Re: More thoughts on saturation

I'm on a PC with Win 7 Pro. Reason has been pretty much 100% reliable and I use Sony Acid 6 now and then which is also very stable. In any case I have emailed support and we'll see what they say. I truly would like it to work, not just due to the money I have into it but I really like the look and '...

More thoughts on saturation

Recently as I am near to having final mixes of the project I've been working on, I wanted to see what the saturation effect in Harrison Mixbus would do. How a mix done on it compares to a mix straight out of Reason and which one I would like best. Unfortunately Mixbus has major stability issues that...

Re: Waves "Which DAW do you use" poll

"oh really? You think I'm funny? Do I amuse you? What, like a clown? How am I funny? " There was this time on lunch break at work where everyone in the office would always go to a local place to eat. One day, we're all ordering and one of the co-workers says referencing the specials board "Huh...loo...

Re: Waves "Which DAW do you use" poll

Well, not for me. Clicking on those does not open a poll and if I hover over it, they all have the same URL (the emoji is not a different URL) which is nothing more than a link back to the image. It looks to me like one big image, no poll. You must choose an emoji at the bottom where the grey thumb...

Re: Vocal Processing Chain

In Reason my usual chain looks something like: channel filters cutting the unwanted lows, channel EQ as needed (usually a bit of low-mid cut about 250hz as I think that's where my room resonates a bit). Inserts would be Selig Leveler, then light compression with the Cakewalk or FET and finally the S...

Re: Diff comparison in Reason

In theory it would be super easy for Reason to create a basic text report that lists all the changes between saves of a song. What would be useful is the ability to save settings without having to save a new song with all the audio data again. So some kind of mix version that is saved within the son...

Re: Why I prefer Reason and Rack Extensions

I just took for granted about the undo function! The main things for me are the reliability, the total recall of absolutely everything, the ease of backing up / moving the whole thing if need be. I love the ability to trial an RE and the ease of buying them and the fact they're already installed. Th...

Off topic but ooh!!! What model is that 2 track? Looking for something smaller than the one I currently have haha ;( It's an Akai 4000DS. Yeah it's fairly compact for this type of machine, uses 7" reels. They're fairly common on Ebay over here. This one was rescued from being thrown away, someone I...

Re: That famous Beatles tape saturation

My latest external saturator effect :puf_bigsmile: It's definitely the beez kneez for going completely retro. Saturation, noise floor (although a lot quieter than I expected), some kind of mid frequency bump, pretty drastic treatment of highs, all that kinda stuff in abundance, no problem, the prove...

Re: That famous Beatles tape saturation

Yeah I find it all very interesting. One thing in there that got my attention is the bit about tape altering the high frequency transients. I have sometimes been stumped by the high end on certain analogue recordings that seem quite 'crisp', definitely bright enough and yet are not harsh and I suspe...

Well, if that much money has been pumped into it I can't imagine it just disappearing. Surely someone somewhere wants to see that money again! 70 million is still a hefty old chunk of change.

Re: That famous Beatles tape saturation

I have tried to find everything useful online on the subject of emulating the analogue recording process and a good article I ran across recently is this one from Sound On Sound (I think from 2010 so any plugins mentioned may be out of date, but the interesting part is about what each component does...

Re: How to mix / master for vinyl

Something else I thought of - longer playing times mean less bass energy overall (and less level to some degree) because the grooves need to be closer together to fit more material on the disk. I remember Todd Rundgren records from the 70s have long running times but are quite thin sounding overall...

Re: What's the best way to get a warm sound in Reason using Reason effects?

I've been experimenting lately with the saturation feature of the Softube Trident A-Range EQ. It definitely does something nice but you have to use it on individual tracks or groups of tracks to really get the subtle cumulative effect. The nice thing about it is that it keeps the overall gain pretty...

The much easier way would be just to transpose the whole track. In the tools window you can just transpose by a whole step down by choosing -2 in the transpose function.

Re: Looploft & BFD Core Refills....confused?

If you have audio loops from The Loop Loft in .rex format you can load them into the Octorex player or just drag and drop them onto an audio track. I have a large library of audio loops from The Loop Loft and have been very pleased with them. What I do is browse through them and audition them until ...
