How is the CPU efficiency in Studio One vs Reason? (Reason 10, windows PC, i7 3rd gen)
I've been able to do what I needed up to now but want to move to something more efficient for mixing. I've heard Reaper is the most CPU efficient but I am leaning toward Studio One.

Re: Upsampling song vs export at higher sample rate
The thing about that is, with the added headroom, you can low pass filter effectively without hearing the filter itself (well before 48k and yet higher than audible range). When plugins you mentioned generate harmonics, they will be already aliased into the audible range on the plugin output and th...

Re: Upsampling song vs export at higher sample rate
They may not alias at all, it is frequency dependent, so if no signal exceeds the nyquist, you won't have any aliasing, and whatever aliasing does occur will begin proportionately higher, and thus may be beyond audible range. If the harmonics went beyond the Nyquist at 24k, they may just as well go...

Re: Upsampling song vs export at higher sample rate
If I convert the whole song to 96k, they no longer alias. They still alias, just quieter. Now, what happens if instead of converting the song to 96k, I leave it at 48 and simply export at 96 when rendering the mix. Is the Reason engine mixing at 48k, and then converting only the output to 96? Or is...

Re: Upsampling song vs export at higher sample rate
Yeah, it shows that it's calculating first, in some form or fashion, but not sure exactly how. I have seen this same question answered for a different DAW (protools) where someone said that PT was still mixing at 48, but I know Reason does some things a bit differently.

Upsampling song vs export at higher sample rate
I just want to understand exactly what is happening 'under the hood' on this. I have searched previous topics but haven't seen the answer. lets say I have a song at 48khz. Lets assume some plugins that generate harmonics can still alias at 48k. If I convert the whole song to 96k, they no longer alia...

Re: nx ocean way nashville Plug-in?
I have the original Waves NX and tried the Abbey Road studio 2, so I'm sure it works in Reason. There are several headphone correction and / or room simulation apps out now. I tried a few and settled on Dsoniq Realphones. But there is something on the way from Acustica that is supposed be the biz. I...

Re: Audiogridder?
OK, I think the issue on my setup was just due to the buffer size in Reason, Increasing it to 1024 has made a world of difference and AG is now running smoothly. AG is set at 2 blocks (21ms)

Well, sounds good so far. At least we know it is working in Reason. I think the problems I am having are with the network, but that's very outside of my area of expertise.

Re: Audiogridder?
Thanks DaveyG and xylyx - I didn't see anything about Audiogridder on the Reason Studios website. So if there's some fount of wisdom at 'RS', pertinent to my question, I did not see it. Although I appreciate anyone wanting to be helpful in earnest - I'm not a newbie and I am extremely well a...

Audiogridder?
As above, 'anyone using it? I did searches and nothing came up! I cannot imagine it has not been mentioned on here.
I have just started playing around with it and it kinda works but... there are problems. (Reason 10 running in win 7 pro, server on win 10 machine)

predelay on effect sends?
Is this possible, and if so how can you do it? If I want to use ONE reverb as a send effect, and I want to delay the sends from different channels. So just as an example, I want a 50ms delay on the send from the guitar, a 100ms delay on the send from the vocal, 30ms delay on the send from the piano....

Re: WARNING! Oeksound Soothe 1.3 Update
I am running windows (win 7 pro) so my results may not be relevant. I have not experienced any more CPU load on 1.3. The only time Soothe is really CPU intensive for me is when it is in an oversampling and / or high resolution mode, so you might just double check that it's running no oversampling an...

Re: The IR thread
Quick update about Xtreme samples IRs. I just bought the Lexicon 224 library from them and although the description only says DVD, it was actually a download (which I greatly prefer). The file was an iso image in .rar so, for whatever reason, it is a DVD image file but is downloadable. I suppose if ...

Re: The IR thread
Here's another seller of IR libraries that I just discovered. I haven't tried them yet and I think they're sold on a DVD and not downloadable. They include presets for the Waves IR-1 and Logic Space Designer but the IRs should, in theory, be usable in the RV7000 (or get the Waves IR1 cheap :-) https...

RV7000 MKII and other convolution reverbs
I'm curious if anyone has compared the sound of the RV7000 with other convo reverbs using the same IRs and if there is any difference? In theory, one would think that so long as no processing is enabled, that all convo reverbs would sound the same given the same IRs. But I have seen opinions on othe...

Re: Techniques/Effects for getting a more Analog sound
Rusko, in his super informative masterclass said to run all your sounds through your mixer ( / outboard gear) and re-record them for this purpose. But it depends on what mixer you have. Right now the best big console emulations can be had using Acustica Audio Nebula with libraries like ...

Re: Thoughts on a practical PC upgrade
There are many Gen I7s. I think the number in the thousandths place refers to the gen. I think they are on 7th or 8th gen now. You definitely would want a quad core i7. Some i7s are dual cores. With Reason it helps that it's single core speed is fast as well. With CPUs usually $200-$300 gets you a ...

Thoughts on a practical PC upgrade
I am considering the idea of upgrading the CPU of my desktop machine. Unfortunately it means changing the motherboard as well because I currently have an Asus PZ77 socket 1155 and I don't think anything much faster is available. Current CPU is i5 3570 3.4ghz, running win 7 pro It's all in a nice gam...

Re: Desktop vs laptop
My biggest issue with laptops are the tiny screens (I mean seriously? 13" to 17" is the average size - LMAO!!!!) and limited CPU speed. That said, my biggest issue with desktops is they aren't mobile.  :puf_bigsmile: If you ever find a laptop/mobile platform you like, though, you can...

Re: Desktop vs laptop
Is there any kind of real comparison of laptop to desktop performance using a DAW? I have yet to see such a thing in searches (maybe I should search for game performance as I'm sure that has been compared to the max but I'm not sure how completely relevant it is) I know desktops have many advantages...

Just to update his thread a bit. Lots of people have started to discover Soothe and have good things to say about it, a few I'm aware of: Grammy Winning Engineer Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers, blink 182, The Lumineers) Richard Chycki (Rush, Dream Theater, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Skillet) Blake...
