Re: Reason vs VST "sound" challenge
I was never sure Urs was being entirely clear when he had his rant. I think there was something else in his mind and he didn't want to be particularly clear. Obfuscation is one of my fave words. Besides Diva is a terrible CPU hog so his code can't be all that sleek - unless it is all those hidden m...

Re: Reason vs VST "sound" challenge
Sure the platforms are different but I know of nothing that would make one sound different from the other and that is essentially my conclusion - with the exception that VST are more likely to have extra layers of effects or modulation to juice up the sound whereas the Reason platform seems to pref...

Re: Reason vs VST "sound" challenge
The differences between VSTs and REs are that (a) VSTs do not have to conform to the Reason SDK like REs do; and (b) VSTs are not sold in a proprietary store whereas REs are. My understanding is that having to conform to the Reason SDK means that developers can't do certain things the way they might...

Not happening at all That was what we call "dry humor." I know it isn't happening in the foreseeable future. They are making money off the centralized RE market and are as likely to change that as Apple is to license third-party Macs. But it *would in fact* solve the problem, and keep a lot of peop...

Re: Wave Alchemy Rack Extensions
The quality of WA's processed samples is incredible. But I found the demo of Revolution really frustrating to use in Kontakt player. So I didn't buy it. I would definitely be interested in an RE version if they made one, though.

All this could be solved if Props created a "VST rack unit." Just sayin'...

Expanse has become my favorite RE synth (along with The Legend). Just love it for the kind of music I'm making (touch spacey synthwave).

Re: computer recommendations
I've been running Reason on a 2011 Macbook Pro for the last year or so. It really doesn't run Reason that well. I recently bought an HP Z420 with a six core processor and 32GB of RAM for $350 on Craigslist. It runs Reason SO much better. I can get to 54 seconds in the benchmark song. The MBP gets t...

Re: Where Reason stand in the chart of the most used DAW ?
Take a look at Google trends (Reason / Logic / FL Studio / Cubase / Live) . To suggest Reason is less popular because of VSTs ignores the many VST hosts that are less popular than Reason ;) What, you think adding VST would make it suddenly a good VST host? Sure there are people who say they would b...

The MusicRadar polls are not an accurate gauge of the market. It would be nice to have some figures that were.HepCat wrote:

Re: Post Music you made before you picked up Reason
Pre-Reason I used a small hardware studio of: Akai MPC3000 (sampler/sequencer) Yamaha An1X (synth) Roland D-50 (synth) Roland MC-303 (groovebox) Roland VM-3100Pro (mixer) I can't say that any of the music was any good, and over the years I sold most of this stuff (I only regret selling the D-50). Th...

The processing is excellent, and a lot of the samples are already mapped to Kong kits. Love it.

It is an interesting question.... Lots more people use Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Cubase and FL Studio I'd guess, but it's likely that more people use Reason than Bitwig, Reaper or the other various DAWs. I only use reason, I did come across this... http://4dpavshx5ly3quwy2v9yv83i.wpengine.netdna-c...

Can you see the "slight delay" at the beginning of the audio recording? Have you tried using an "Recording Latency Compensation" in the Reason Prefs? Tried Recording Latency Compensation, and it didn't seem to make a difference. For now I've been slicing the "slight delay" off the audio file, but f...

What's your budget? I've been looking at used ones and I'd like to keep it under $1000 (though I'm speaking in Canadian dollars, fyi, I guess that's about $750 American). I think I will just go with a desktop again. From what I've seen online that puts me at a 2013 model at the latest. I suppose if...

Re: computer recommendations
I use a 15" MBP and don't have any issues with screen size. But you can also hook a laptop up to an LCD screen (they are not expensive), so really the best argument for a desktop is that you get more computer for your money--at the cost of portability. If you don't plan to move around with your comp...
