Anatomy of a Piece - Composing + Mixing

Thanks Selig Wait about a week for Part 2. BTW documenting a whole piece is pretty time consuming, and this was only a simple piece! Maybe next time I will limit myself to a slightly smaller slice of the pie. Again any requests will be considered (not that I expect Selig has much to learn from me). ...

The Dark Side: Gothic, Industrial (Dance / Rock / Metal), Futurepop, Shoegaze, Post Punk... anybody out there?

Hi  I used to write a variant of EBM in my Aeroplastic Voice days that loosely sticky-taped up Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Ultravox, Gary Numan and raw Punk. http://benedictroffmarsh.com/2010/03/24/sampler-plastic-anger/ I then did a four track (cassette) EP of electronic Doom Metal which was fun but n...

Anatomy of a Piece - Composing + Mixing

Thanks @ eusti: That is exactly it, a singing saw(tooth). I agree it is rather unexpected in what initially seems more EDM to have this Theramin sound scoop all over the place. BTW how did you manage sooo many posts so fast  @ Mr Alternative: I'm flattered. I hope for alive which is hard whe...

Anatomy of a Piece - Composing + Mixing

Thanks.

In what way are you not sure about the melody? Do you have the same concerns when played as Super Saw?

Anatomy of a Piece - Composing + Mixing

Hi All Well I did it. Here is a pair of articles on writing and mixing a piece. They don't show lots of techniques as that is impossible, more explains why I did what I did as I think that gives greater insight. I use Bandcamp as they are "album" friendly so sure, a nice feature if you can do it.

Combinator Patches | Kong 808 AM & Korg Monotron Duo

Hi and thanks

They look great.

Slight problem tho. You have compressed as RAR which sadly needs a program to open. Can you offer ZIP instead as last time I played with RAR it played havoc with everything.

First online music post ever! MELODIC ROCK USING REASON

LA said Post-Rock. That is a good description as this has that radio sound pretty well nailed. Except the intro is too long and doesn't seem focused - for a 7" single anyway. I will say well done as all the cues are there. Overall though I want the mix to pop a bit more and vocals to be better loude...

My review - Tannoy Reveal 502 - Active nearfield monitors

Thanks Speakers are an endless fascination. And I am endlessly fascinated how some 'not very good' speakers get popular. I understand the need to like the speakers you use but too much fun and the speaker becomes useless. Oddly I led myself up that very path with the album I composed in the last few...

Snakebite?

Hi Mr Dozer Snakebite is definite Subtractive, with a bit of addition via distortions but that doesn't count. I didn't buy but only so as not to clutter my rack. It is an interesting synth with an interesting character but I'm not sure it is best for a learner as some of the architecture is rather o...

Goodnight Tokyo - a "Dropped" Collab

Thanks guys. I didn't hink i left any space for anything but if there were a saxophone player...

@ Mr Alternative: we all knowses what happenses with the precious, it gets tossed into a pit and melted down. Not a good outcome for art ;)

Thanks guys. I mean to write a few more articles but I distract myself.

New album is mostly done (just the shouting left to do) and then maybe I can do some. Requests considered.

It would probably be better to make a new thread for each tutorial or if everything is in this one it will become crazy.

Of course if everyone keeps replying to my post I will get to feel pretty special

Goodnight Tokyo - a "Dropped" Collab

Hi All

I thought I'd see how the Discover collab thing worked. I liked this loop and made this piece called "Goodnight Tokyo" based on a loop by the same name by lisverb
