Yes, but what shape should a Reason controller take? Multiple controllers for things like main mixer, transport, keyboards, pads etc or more general like the universal controllers? Should it have audio I/O or just MIDI, be portable or desktop studio?

Perhaps a MIDI rooting player? This player could include features like root specific MIDI channels out through CVs or merge MIDI channels, even multiple keyboard splits for each MIDI channel. This may give the flexibility you are after on any RE/VST.

PH have created a range of A-List REs for drums and guitars including acoustic, pop/power chords and fingerpicking nylon but no bass guitar, is there a reason for this?
