Re: Random audio trivia of the day
Sound needs about 3 milliseconds per meter to travel through air Consider this real world value when dealing with and handling latency in systems, be it computers or digital desks. ..and of course PLEASE consider it when setting up loudspeakers in your school or for local town festivities to avoid ...

Re: Everyday Ideas
The phantom center and any sense of depth behind the speakers is an illusion created by our minds. Well.. :) Not really, right? I mean in the area of the sweet spot a proper stereo system is basically wave field synthesis. So whats happening in the air right outside of our ears is already equivalen...

Hehehe, great article. Things can be that simple, right? Theres a simple reason for something and at some point it becomes a myth and people make up all kinds of reasons.

Re: Random audio trivia of the day
I just happen to have an EQ that does ridiculously narrow cuts, probably too narrow for this test. @Normen: What bandwidth do you suggest for this effect? I'd say around 2 you should have enough of an effect without doing too much other stuff but depending on the speaker (I mostly use it to make sp...

Re: Random audio trivia of the day
I’ve seen this empirically in my own mixes, especially apparent when mixing in a big finely-tuned room where you can actually hear stuff like the SPL Vitalizer, etc....This should work in Reason but only on “E” mode, as the G series EQ is really a broad brush....say a sword instead of a scalpel :-)...

Random audio trivia of the day
Localization of sound sources is especially dependent on frequencies around 8kHz. Try it! Cut 8kHz on your whole mix / speaker controller and hear the sound detach from the speakers. Boost 8kHz on a guitar that doesn't firmly stand in the stereo field of your mix and hear how it becomes more statio...

Re: The language of audio
I always wondered how native english speakers feel about that. Us germans we simply combine words and we have a new one or we simply use latin or greek words. But you keep reusing words for different things. I mean sure we have a few of those as well but theres so many in the english language. Like ...

Re: Hydlides rant about performance
Yesterday i realized the EQ (F2) drains quite alot of resources. I always have it open on one screen, but turning it off made all my stuttering projects play smooth again. No VST's involved tho. I've read about optimization and how closing combinators help reduce DSP load, just didn't occur to me t...

Re: Stop the censorship-machinery! Save the Internet!
Since I've started this thread, I would like to add some aspects: First I have to clarify that I also want that the "rightholders" get what they deserve, but this new copyright law must be improved! My problem with article 13 (quoted below) is the following sentence: "Those measures, such as the us...

He doesn‘t want a conversation. Evidence: He just turned his back on the last few people that still tried to talk to him. Seems he‘s fine with just rambling in a corner about things that are in his head and nobody understands (according to his own words). No harm in that, I just don‘t see why you n...

Re: Stop the censorship-machinery! Save the Internet!
To me all of this including Trump is not a support of their policies but just the people crossing the most outrageous thing on their ballot because it's all piles of shit anyway. You wanna know the really hilarious (in a disturbing sort of way) thing about Trump? He consistently said throughout his...

Re: Well it happened again... 10.1.2 left me dead in the water!
Did you check for hardware failure? Maybe your disk is EOLing..? Not sure there's anything to suggest that. No other issues, and wellness checks always run clean. And the EXACT same problem with this particular installer across two updates, weeks apart, seems to argue against hardware problems. It'...

Re: Hydlides rant about performance
However, for DAW like Reason - with complex routing, modulation, random devices - this might not be as effective as for "linear" DAWs that only keep the REC-armed track "live" and the rest is pre-computed. As Reason does know about the modulation routing network it can also run this in the backgrou...

Democracy in action can also be dangerous when you have demogoges in power. See the sitting US president for reference material. :End Rant: Absolutely. It's worth noting though, that Trump has laid bare to the world all the problems of contemporary America, and in a way that is difficult to doubt. ...

so multi-core processors are at the mercy of both the usb and memory bus, essentially bottle necking the data, along with other variable like parallel audio tracks? Re: Hydlides rant about performance
Sure, some synths that are ported 1:1 to an environment where they always have to run at 64 samples might not like that. Any synth can raise the DSP meter. If you watch the video I made you might see why that's the case. It's about TIME. If a plugin needs or wastes TIME - not CPU cycles - the DSP m...

Re: Hydlides rant about performance
what I’m wondering is if PH can even DO something like calling VSTs at the buffer size while still calling internal instruments at 64 samples. I’m not proficient enough with coding to know if running VSTs at some multiple of 64 samples (like your example of 256) would be possible while maintaining ...

Is this why my old i7 2600 (which admittedly is water cooled and seriously OC’ed) has zero problems? I’ll be the first to admit that I use an awful lot of hardware and therefore have far less CPU-loading to worry about, but people here are saying they can’t run 15 instances of Europa which is insan...

But addition works the same on any computer - or did you ever hear of "warmer results" in different spreadsheets apps? ;) Yes. My guess is you've never used Google Docs. Makes my blood boil anyway. So, that's pretty warm ;) Exactly what I say about DI boxes: "If it's got a sound it's broken!" ;)
