Re: Who is Sef Nitty?

He also advertises free "Ambient Drums" ReFill with every purchase. Could it be Nucelus Soundlabs Ambient Drums ReFill?
I've contacted Nucleus Soundlab about that as well.

We are not affiliated, he hasn't reached out, and we certainly don't have any form of agreement. Bit hard to assess what's included in his packages though, seems like he's trying to profit from/piggybacking on Exode's reputation... Exactly, which is not only unethical, but down right shady. Re: Supersaw Community ReFill

Here are some more Thor patches, from a dormant commercial ReFill of mine.
There are two supersquare patches in there too! :p

P.S. Don't forget to open the modwheel when trying the LD Enigma -EX patch (but watch your levels!). D.S. :D

Re: advantages of serum over Europa?

Serum also has great resampling capabilites. You can resample a warp (mod) to a wavetable (make a full wavetable from the warp sweep, based on the current table position), you can also resample the output to wavetable directly within Serum. You can tweak tables to something new completely, or build ...

Antidote and expanse sound closer to each other. Serum sounds like a way different detuning algo?
Not necessarily another algorithm (according to the settings it's linear, same as expanse), but Serum likely uses a wider pitch range.

Re: VST to compete with Virus sounds?

Here's a short example with four synths. Each synth is set to 7 unison voices, maximum stereo width, and detuning amount set to 12 o clock (i.e. 50%).

1. Europa
2. Antidote
3. Expanse
4. Serum.

Re: VST to compete with Virus sounds?

One of my biggest gripes with Europa is that the tuning curve for the unison section is quite terrible. Share the same feelings.. Last weekend i was trying out a bit. When you use the unison as modifier, it definitely sounds like the effect is frequency dependent, with less effect going up in the s...

Re: VST to compete with Virus sounds?

 About Super saw on Europa... I've been doing some testing. As far as I can tell, the nasty metallic sound is coming from the onboard reverb. If I turn it off, and use a high quality reverb, the metallic sound is gone. YMMV One of my biggest gripes with Europa is that the tuning curve fo...

Re: ReSpire pretty heavy on CPU right?

Dug ReSpire out of the bottom of the box a little while ago and tried some patches at random. It seemed pretty heavy on CPU even when I increased the buffer size. Is that the general consensus? I think I read somewhere a while ago that the VST is a bit kinder. My main issue with ReSpire is that pro...

Re: Fallen for Expanse

When I demoed eXpanse, I remember I found there seemed to be a softness of attack that I couldn't pin down - it was like the attack was always at a few ms, even if I set all the envelope attacks to 0. I'm sure I was just missing something. That kind of synth isn't really my thing anyway, so I'm hap...

Re: Fallen for Expanse

Without going into the specifics, I'm fairly confident that Expanse (esp with table quality set to high/est) has a higher fidelity/detail than Europa. It will perhaps not matter to everyone, but I can definitely hear that difference. Expanse has a clarity that imho only a couple of other synths can ...

Re: What do you use the "noise" modulation source in Europa and Grain for?

I sometimes use it, in smaller amounts, for modulating the pitch of an oscillator (or several oscillators).

You could also use it to modulate the frequency/cutoff of a filter, i.e. a bandpass filter set to high resonance and keyboard tracking, for certain specific sounds.

Re: How do oscillators differ from synth to synth?

And now with real analog hardware, as eXode stated, there comes a lot more into consideration generating the final sound. Even if the synth gets "warmer" over time, the sound changes and its probably more than just a boring drift. Yeah the other side to this is analog and it almost deserves its own...

Re: To RE developers: What's your own favorite RE that you've made?

Disclaimer: While I'm not a developer per se, I was involved with the design of both Expanse, and Viking VK-2. VK-2 is probably my favorite. I had great fun with Expanse and a lot of lessons/experience from being part of it, but VK-2 is my go to for analog goodness (regardless of platform). As far a...

Re: How do oscillators differ from synth to synth?

I'm not an expert but I have looked into this. A sin wave is theoritcly a perfect tone. Mathematical. In analogue hardware the differences of the timbre of a pure sine across different instruments boils down to imperfections in the creation of the sine wave. A saw wave is not a pure waveform. It's ...

Re: How do oscillators differ from synth to synth?

I haven't bought a new soft synth in a long time. That being said I have so many of them they mostly get neglected, mostly because they have the same features as the ones I choose to use. I get that new synths have bigger and better and new features and will continue to do so, but I am curious abou...

I think it's a nice little source of inspiration. You don't need it for everything, but for hihats or similar I like playing around with Beat Map to get quick inspiration that go beyond my standard 16th note hats (drums have never been my forte). I usually combine Beat Map with ReGroove to get a lit...

Re: PMS-20 Analog Filter. Is it worth getting?

If you want filters you should have a look at Etch Red. If I remember correctly, the "Fatty" filter is based on the Korg MS-20 filter. EDIT: The Fatty filter in ETCH is based on an OTA Sallen-Key filter, basically the same type of filter as the MS-10, and first revision of the MS-20. According to th...
