Heads up.
This hit home for me. When I released my album in November, of course I included Google Play as a distribution channel, not realizing how inextricably tied it would be to YouTube -- how static video content would be autogenerated for each song (my own videos be damned), tied to ads, available to all, and that there was absolutely nothing I could do about it.

Article and Call to Action re: Google's Music Key and YouTube
I'm still doing it wrong.

Thanks for sharing this. Not so ironically, my releases are also sold through Google Play. Sure enough - I noticed this popped up not too long ago:Julibee wrote:Heads up.

So much for Google's "do no evil" philosophy.

Ah, geez... Now I feel badly for not having told you (specifically) sooner... I see this every time I look at my own stuff. I just assumed you knew...EnochLight wrote:

I'm vexed. Part of me is infuriated, but... part of me is relieved. If some kid had uploaded a copy, I would have no way (legal or otherwise) to police something like this and make take-down requests. I have neither the time nor money.. So having an "official" upload is somewhat nice. TuneCore (my distributor) will actually allow me to monetize the ad revenue on YouTube stuff, but I have to pay for the "service".
Ugh..
