Inspired by the recent 'it's not the gear' thread and that I'm listening to it now.

Mine is - The Who : Live at Leeds
I don't know how true it is but it just feels so intimate/real/honest to me. But mainly it's just a great (compilation) album, live or not. I could listen to it just for Keith Moon's performance as well. Also it's a great way into the band for the uninitiated.

other faves due to growing up with them and so many other reasons:
Iron Maiden - Live after Death
Scorpions - Worldwide live
Black Sabbath - Live Evil (nice to hear Ronnie's interpretations)

Iron Maiden - Live after Death is definitely at #1 for me - a milestone in "Arena Rock"
AC/DC - Live (1992) at #2 - Chris Slade just brought so much drive to the band

...I bet theres others I can't think of right now ^^

Let us not forget Metallic K O. Maybe bad audio, but it did shear the top of my head off.

If the purpose of a live album is to evoke the true feeling of 'being there' then this one has had no equal.

I see a bunch of fellow proggers here
I also caught Cramps and Ramones live a time or two, impressive. Lux could puke a technicolor rainbow.
also Genesis live but after Gabriel had left. Still, Supper's Ready. damn...

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds was a pretty sick album (for those who can stomach DMB).

Meh, "let there be rock" was my time-line :puf_bigsmile:

Please add:

UFO: "strangers in the night" and Judas Priest: "Unleashed in the East" :)

Also (and we're WAY off here) Prince "Sign O' the Times" video. My god, it's the epitome of "fuck, I suck!"

And for any "real" musician, let's not forget "Cheap Trick, live and Budokan" (even though they mixed the screaming chicks WAY too loud, it's still cool as fuck!)

I heard about the Residents way back in college many decades ago, but never listened to them. A few months ago, I stumbled on to them on YouTube.

Now I find myself simultaneously fascinated and a little frightened, too. The Gingerbread Man ... eeeeeeaaaaa.

And Randy Rose's home movies; I've watched many of those, after which, I usually meander up to the kitchen and take a few more Prozac capsules.

ha... found the gingerbread man quite good... weird and disturbing,,, best version yet /Imo... concert also disturbing , but interesting... seems they have started to play somewhat better after I made the mistake spending a waste of time listening to that crappy first album... don't think I could play guitar wearing masks and glasses... yet never tried

Alive in America, Steely Dan.

Mainly because they were so good in the studio.

And the intro by the driver.
