Just found out Prince died.
I wasn't a huge fan but as Zane Lowe would say, you've got to respect what he did for music.

Unlike the next 10,000 FB posts youll read about it, I am not going to pretend to like or respect someone just because they died.
I have always hated this guys attitude, look and sound since the 80s.
but yeah.... may he rest in piece.

He programmed drum machines a lot, including the Yamaha RX-5!
And produced/wrote lots of tracks for other artists.
Undeniable groove talent.

Thats my favorite band of that era. So much great music from them and Prince.Vince-Noir-99 wrote:He programmed drum machines a lot, including the Yamaha RX-5!

Terrible news. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I listened to some of Prince's repertoire a lot during my student years, and the nr 1 party tune always was 1999.
That's the kind of tune that sticks to your mind, the kind of music you could wake up to in the morning, realizing it's playing in your head.
To me he radiated a will to live.
Parties weren't meant to last, but his music will never die.
RIP Prince.

I'm amazed at how many people have never seen Under The Cherry Moon. That was a great flick. Prince plays a gigalo in the south of france, all black and white.
Yeah, bad year. First Susumu Yokota, then Bowie, now Prince (or whatever he's called now). It's a year of passing talent I guess.

I don't watch Jimmy Fallon, but I did check the video of Prince tossing the vintage Epiphone guitar he borrowed from the band in the air and breaking it. Dick move, and I woulda kicked him straight in the purple box after that. I lost a lot of respect for him that day. RIP.

That's really sad news.
My condolences to his family and friends.
I'll remember him as one of the most talented and skilled composers, (multi-instrumentalist) musicians and performers of all times. Moreover, I'll always respect him as a man who's got the guts to fight for his rights and for his artistic freedom.
May he rest in peace.

You mean fight for more money? A bit like Gene Simmons does?marcuswitt wrote:That's really sad news.

No, that's not what I meant. I meant exactly what I've said. The rest seems to be your personal interpretation, which I'm fine with. And BTW, I don't even know the other person you've mentioned.Gorgon wrote:You mean fight for more money? A bit like Gene Simmons does?marcuswitt wrote:That's really sad news.

I was in college in Minneapolis when Prince (and The Time) was (were) playing at First Avenue.

Never really liked most of his music. I do love Kevin Smith's story about his visit to Paisley Park though...
I have embraced Allihoopa. Come listen and play with my crap Figure loops here:

I can imagine how paranoid that poor fellow has been, being chased everywhere by a guy named "Prince" like a Pepe Le Pew target.
Some creepy people just stick to you and you can`t get rid of them, since you don`t want to be too rude (but not too polite either).

R.I.P. Prince - master writer, musician, and music producer. I hope the banks are wise with all that music now that they've "drilled open" the spinning wheel to Prince's vault.
