Video Software Recommendation For Creating Basic Textures/Fractals/Visuals etc.

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could please recommend a simple program that can easily create basic textures/fractals/visuals, not unlike those you find on music player apps.

If using Macintosh, check out Motion 5. Aside from being particularly friendly and tweak-able in real-time, it allows any audio source to affect parameters of particle emitters and such.. amplitude and frequency dependent, which means that once you've mapped your audio to a couple of shape generators it's all sync'ed and automatic from there.
