A question about midi controllers and switching instruments within Reason

Hi guys

I'm thinking of buying a midi controller (not a midi keyboard) to adjust the parameters within Reason but am a bit confused.

Does one exist that integrates so I don't have to do that midi learn, assign individual fader process each time I switch instrument? Is there one which will work more easily when I switch instruments as its a complete ball-ache to set one up then go to another one set it up again and so on. Perhaps there is an easier way but ideally one that automatically assigns.

At the moment I'm looking at Novation LaunchControl XL MKII. The Nektar controllers seem to do this but are more expensive.

Any help would be great guys

Ill make it more clear

Are there any midi controllers that auto map to Reason devices and will auto map each time the user switches devices to work on...?

Reason supports a bunch of controllers that auto map via remotemap files. If you want to know more about the technology see this article https://www.propellerheads.com/blog/control-remote

For a list of supported controllers have a look in Reason at Edit -> Preferences -> Control Surfaces -> Add Manually (sorted by manufacturers) or look here (http://remote.artotaku.de)

However, speaking of Launch Control XL Mk2 - it is not officially supported with it´s full features which means you´d have use either the generic midi controller control surface or, alternatively, search or ask in the reasontalk forum if someone has a coded remote script for it or use this one: http://www.irregular-cluster.de/codec.html

A good resource for remote scripts is also

Thanks guys, great info

But the one question Im left with is do these devices automap everytime I switch software devices to work on? Meaning if I leave NN19 for Thor will the device change its mapping to the device I'm on and leave the previous ones settings how it is..?

Only, if you change the MIDI track of the device in the main sequencer. So let´s say you have a midi track for Thor and one for NN19.
This is where the remotemap file kicks in. Reason looks into the remotemap file of the midi controller and searches if there is a mapping for the device available. If so, the controls on the midi controller are mapped to specific controls on the device.
You can also edit these files to adjust them to your liking.
Typically, the remote script also maps some controls (previous/next button) for changing the current midi track.

Furthermore, you can also lock a midi controller to a device so that midi track switching has no effect. This can be handy sometimes.

The Nektar controllers are the only ones with Rack extension mapping afaik. However the last Panorama Reason update for the P controllers was in 2017 not too long after the original Reason 10 release.
