While January 22nd marks the 1-year day for Propellerheads User Forums shutting down, today marks the day when, 1 year ago, Reasontalk surfaced the internet.

On this day, I have gathered some data on Reasontalk, and some statistics about this place since we moved july 4th 2015 and introduced the forum as it is today.

Site statistics

Since we moved to this platform in July, the activity on the site has just kept on increasing. We went from ~560.000 pageviews in June 2015 on the old host, to 1.264.356 pageviews in December 2015. I decided to take a look at the costs, if we haven't conviced Lunesis to make the move:

Website Toolbox
  1. 500.000 pagesviews: $30/month
  2. Additional pageviews: $0.10 for 1000 pageviews
  3. Additional 764.356 in December 2015: $76.44
  4. Total: $106.44
Note: In average, we have 1.085.647 pageviews/month, in average the monthly fee would be $88.56

Self-hosted
  • Server: $20/month
  • Added benefit of controlling everything down to the smallest detail: Free
  • Total: $20/month
Traffic from July 1st

Visits: 724.885
Pageviews: 7.147.174
Files: 14.391.152
Hits: 21.680.541
Transfer: 254.92 Gigabyte (this is almost exclusively just text and images)
Busiest month: December 2015, 1.264.356 pageviews, 29.417 unique visitors, daily average of 40.785 pageviews

An ode to the users

Thank you all for using the forums and being this active! In my opinion, you guys have turned this place into the most friendly, constructive, helping forum I've seen. The most challenging part of moderating and managing this forum has been to remove the spam, and we do not get a lot of that, at all.

In a field that is otherwise known for elitism and a "matter of taste", this is truly the go-to place for questions, advice, feedback and even the occasional rant, without being hung from a virtual tree (as per usual in online forums). And we have all of you to thank for this!

Happy Birthday, Reasontalk!

It's a true spiritual successor to PUF. Thanks for that. :)

Yeah... well done everyone. You are intelligent and savvy and saved it from Brent's (Lunesis) completely selfless but expensive response that initially saved this forum and all its previous members scattering to the seven winds.

Kenni? Eauhm? Who are you? I know Kenni has prior and I think I liked some of his breakbeat stuff back in 2002/3.

BUT... how did this come about? Why was Lunesis left to carry the loss and not somehow reinstated for having bridged that crucial time?

Plus ... I think it's a bit boring now. It's like JoeyLuck and others have this insane drive for positivity that makes me want to hurl.

Glad it's not swamped with BS... but IMO it's very sterile.

In your incredibly dull and very occasional opinion.

I could have said before my response... how rare.

also can I re-say the bit that I really meant? about Brent... (Lunesis) no that would be dull and ... lots of things.

Brent saved the old PUF from scattering to the 4 corners. He did it instinctively. It cost him a LOT! $$ Then Kenni (whoever he is) came along and took that BURDEN from him using a bit of prior knowledge of internet hosting... and now he's the hero... what about Lunesis' losses... think they got repaid for saving things? No. He got a big fat nothing.

Happy Birthday. CNUTS.

Ha, it's very much like RS.net, people with little else to do, splinter themselves into many users... who the fuck is ... I can't even bring myself to mention it. Gawd bless you. I think I may have overstayed and overstated myself. Have fun and happy well done day.

Are you ok?

Anyways, I have no further knowledge how and why the switchover happened, but it was my understanding that Brent didn't have much time for the forum at that time and people came together to help the forum survive...

Here's his last statement in that regards: "Thanks gentlemen, appreciate the support. I think the guy I handed this off to is probably better off doing the job because he has experience with this sort of forum and implementing feature requests, because of his day job. I figured everything would run smoothly because this is a good community and the rules should be pretty clear by now (i.e. don't be a dick). Anyways, started playing around with Reason again.. having fun ;)"

I'm fine thanks D. It did get handed over when the new owners sourced a better solution... Remember the transfers needed from the old platform etc? I'm not trying to put down the current owners, I just think it's a bit crap that Lunesis ended up with a load of charges and the new owners didn't do anything to repay that other than take over responsibility once they'd sourced a better deal. Brent didn't mind/care. But I thought it was unfair.
