How to generate synth tone only on release?

I am looking for ways to generate sound only on key release using Thor for example. The NNXT can do release-samples, but with a synth... any ideas?
You can route CV from a more advanced envelope generator like RE Charlotte.

Here is a trick, it's not elegant, but it works:Marco Raaphorst wrote:I am looking for ways to generate sound only on key release using Thor for example. The NNXT can do release-samples, but with a synth... any ideas?
Thor's Mod Routing bus has a function called Last Gate.
1. Create a Thor in a Combinator.
2. In the Mod Bus Routing section set:
- Source: Last Gate.
- Amount: 100.
- Destination: CV1.
- Amount 100.
3. Then connect Thor's Modulation Output CV1 to Combinator CV Input 1 and set the polarity to unipolar.
4. In the Combinator's programmer select the Thor and set:
- Source: CV in 1.
- Target: Amplifier Gain.
- Min: 127.
- Max: 0.
5. To get rid of a gate click, set Thor's Amp Envelope Attack to about 122 and to hear Thor producing a sound on a key release turn the Release up (3.82 sec).
Download combinator patch.

Thanks! Close to what I need. It doesn't do polyphonic release but I guess no trick will deliver in Reason.Oenkenstein wrote:Here is a trick, it's not elegant, but it works:Marco Raaphorst wrote:I am looking for ways to generate sound only on key release using Thor for example. P.S. The last 'Amount 100' is not needed

Also a cool trick. Monophonic release but it works.Vince-Noir-99 wrote:Maybe this helps:
Not sure exactly what you need, but in Thor you can get the Mod Envelope to be a poly release envelope easily enough. Just assign Key Gate to M.Env Gate at -100, then also assign a Button to M.Env Gate. You'll need a long Amp Env release to hear the results. Does this do anything for you?

Couldn't reproduce this.selig wrote:Not sure exactly what you need, but in Thor you can get the Mod Envelope to be a poly release envelope easily enough. Very simple indeed. Nice! Not polyphonic though.jengstrom wrote:How about MIDI Gate -> Amp Gain at -100% ?
This gives you only the release-envelope.
Here's the Thor File that demonstrates this. I've been having fun with this lately!Marco Raaphorst wrote:Couldn't reproduce this.selig wrote:Not sure exactly what you need, but in Thor you can get the Mod Envelope to be a poly release envelope easily enough. This example shows using the Mod Env as a release envelope, and using it to control the Filter and Amp - I even added velocity as an example of how to take it even further.

Mmm well what it can do is this, no method can do real release:jengstrom wrote:It is polyphonic in my tests -- are you sure?Marco Raaphorst wrote:Very simple indeed. Nice! Not polyphonic though.jengstrom wrote:How about MIDI Gate -> Amp Gain at -100% ?
This gives you only the release-envelope.
- play a chord, keep sustaining that chord
- play a few notes and release them (you will be the release be triggered)
- no release the chord also (no release!)
I am trying to make release bell tones for the Radical Keys which sounds nothing like a real Rhodes (sounds like a Wurlitzer).
How about Mod Env(-100) ==> Amp Gain. That will be 100% polyphonic. Make sure Mod Env has 0 release & max sustain, adjust your filter and amp env to have max sustain, and you're good to go.
Edit: +Mod-Env.Sustain = MAX
Edit: +Mod-Env.Sustain = MAX

Nice tricks in this thread. When none of them works for you, perhaps you could sample the bell tones and use a NN-XT combined with the Radical Keys. In the NN-XT you can set the play mode to FW-SUS and the Loop End to 0 and adjust the release to your liking.Marco Raaphorst wrote:I am trying to make release bell tones for the Radical Keys which sounds nothing like a real Rhodes (sounds like a Wurlitzer).
If I'm following you correctly, the patch I posted does all of this - what am I missing?Marco Raaphorst wrote:Mmm well what it can do is this, no method can do real release:jengstrom wrote:It is polyphonic in my tests -- are you sure?Marco Raaphorst wrote:Very simple indeed.
