Reason essentials users

I've just had a message from a new essentials 9 user who says that he can't bounce any audio out as it is all gray. I look through the manual but it was just the usual straightforward explanation. I'm possibly guessing he hasn't registered it to his laptop and is trying to use it offline?
I'm not familiar with the restrictions with it and limitations.
Any advice would be much appreciated
