Yes. Though some of the other native devices are just a play on words:ghostboi79 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019what are the other ones? dr octo , as in dr octopus with 8 ( arms 'pads ) ?
- Subtractor: it's pretty evident - it's a subtractive synth.
- NN19: a play on Paul Hardcastle's 1985 sampler epic
- Redrum: yes, from the Shining (they were doing a pun with the "Re" part and a drum, as in Re-cycle, Re-Birth, etc).
- Dr. Rex: was the original name of the Dr. Octorex before it had 8 slots. I guess someone at Props had a medical fetish?
- Scream 4: a play on the horror film series.

And most of the early tutorials were littered with pop-culture references. Even Ryan slips some in now and then (I remember Nyan cat appearing at one point).

Perhaps? Good catch! Though the similarities between the original Boss Dr. Rhythm DR550 and Dr. Rex is virtually zero, aside from the fact that they both did rhythm. The DR550 was a straight up drum machine, if I remember correctly.Pinkbox wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019EnochLight wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019

Never used one of them myself, but it looks like there have been a whole line of Dr.Rythm. Some of them may have not been just drum machine, and more like Dr.Rex...?EnochLight wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019

Malström is designed by Magnus Lindström
As far as I know, this one is just my interpretation, but I like it...
The RE logo is shown as 'Re' and is presented like an element on the periodic table.
Re is Rhenium, which is a stable element. Rack Extensions and Reason are pretty damn stable. Rhenium is also used in turbine blades = Reason logo.

Congrats on having a daughter who is already smarter than you. I have one as well!ghostboi79 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019My daughter noticed it says redrum -murder backwards

i never noticed that before i bet a lot of you have .
The name Reason itself is somewhat of a pun. At a minimum, it's a take on the name Rebirth, the first Props software product. All "Re" puns stem from there. But I will always maintain that it's also a shot at emagic's Logic (now, Apple Logic). Logic. Reason. hmmm....
Props have denied it, but I think they're playing coy.

Audiomatic:
Of course you've got 'audio' and 'automatic' effects. But I believe it is also derived from Kodak's Instamatic and inspired by Instagram and its quick and easy effects.
Also, "Audiomatic Retro Transformer" = ART

Yeah I've often thought of that as well. Always sounds funny when I'm talking to someone about the software we use, someone says they use logic, I say I use reason, and someone overhearing comes over to engage in what they think is a philosophical type conversationCephaloPod wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019Congrats on having a daughter who is already smarter than you. If that's true, it's beyond smart. And if it isn't, it's beyond serendipitous.joeyluck wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019As far as I know, this one is just my interpretation, but I like it...

I'm guessing you've never played with the screws on the subtractor either?ghostboi79 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019My daughter noticed it says redrum -murder backwards
