mark the interesting spots in doodling sounds
one great way is to use a different DAW and drop markers at the interesting points.
sorry, I’m still bitter that it’s 2020 and Reason still doesn’t have markers.

I mean no offense here, but every time someone mentions the need for markers, someone says “just use Blocks”, and frankly, anyone who’s been on the site for any amount of time has undoubtedly heard that tired refrain numerous times already.
for those of us who use Blocks already—the way they’re meant to be used—no, we can’t use them as markers instead.
but more importantly, you can’t use a keystroke to drop a Block somewhere on the timeline as you listen. and that’s saying nothing of all the other useful features you get with markers in what I’ve got to assume is literally every other half-decent DAW.
Keep bangin' that drum, brother. I'm right beside you.
Such a simple thing to implement - we already have a left, right and end marker and a timeline to put 'em on.
(and anyone who suggests blocks are a suitable substitute has not used markers before!)
Agree so far. But for me are markers on my priority list more on the bottom side of the list. I just tried to give you and the OP a workaround.guitfnky wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020I mean no offense here, but every time someone mentions the need for markers, someone says “just use Blocks”, and frankly, anyone who’s been on the site for any amount of time has undoubtedly heard that tired refrain numerous times already.

Another way could be to create an empty track, where you can create note lanes as markers (without snap-to-grid ofc).
And for everybody who thinks that Reason is not the right DAW for him/her, just switch and be happy. Nobody forces you to drive a Ferrari if you want to drive a Toyota...

yeesh, man, give it a rest. people want new features in Reason because they LIKE USING REASON. it’s really not a difficult concept to grasp.Loque wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020Agree so far. I don’t get why so many people think being outspoken about wanting basic features is sour grapes or just trolling about software we keep paying to upgrade, even though we secretly hate it—that makes no sense whatsoever.
Naahhh..its just simple: If it does not fit, use something else. I was very, very, very...close to leave Reason, because there was no VST support and bam! Right on time, 5 minutes before 12. A few other goodies keeps me in since than. But if there is a point i cannot make music anymore as i want, i considere a different DAW. Sadly i tried a lot, and a lot of them just suck, so i would prefere Reason till now, even if it misses a few features. Lets see what the future brings...guitfnky wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020yeesh, man, give it a rest. people want new features in Reason because they LIKE USING REASON. it’s really not a difficult concept to grasp.Loque wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020

But i am bit tired of all the complains...make a feature request at Reason Studios. If they dont deliver, you always have a choice and you should use it. For me, the last update was 5 before 12 again, since it doesnt offer much for me...For that 100-130 bucks i can buy myself in to a new DAW next time...
Reason12, Win10
yep, I wouldn’t be posting my gripes if I hadn’t already gone through and made a formal feature request. I’ve requested markers and a few other things a couple of times now, through their feedback form, and I try to remind people every so often in the feature request threads to use it.Loque wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020Naahhh..its just simple: If it does not fit, use something else. I’ve tried (and bought) several DAWs since Reason 11 was released, but I came back, because it just has the better overall experience for me. it’s just SO close to being a near-perfect DAW for me that it’s frustrating to not have many of these industry-standard basics yet.
Sorry you're tired - but these "complaints" are exactly how software works. Some call them "feature requests", some call them "complaints". Same thing IMO, just a different perspective.Loque wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020But i am bit tired of all the complains...make a feature request at Reason Studios. Everyone knows they can move to a new DAW if they're not happy - I don't see the point in reminding folks of this? People love Reason and want to see it improved.
And like everyone "has a choice" to move to another DAW, everyone here has a "choice" to ignore these threads/comments! Cuts both ways IMO…

Careful, this thread might get locked if you point out that Reason hasn't implemented markers yet.

Totally agree. Can take months to learn another daw too and for those that say they don't want too much clutter in Reason by adding features they deem as un-necessary, if you don't use them and ignore them, how is that stopping you doing anything? I can only assume they mean cluttering up the Menu's with too many options listed.guitfnky wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020yeesh, man, give it a rest. people want new features in Reason because they LIKE USING REASON. it’s really not a difficult concept to grasp.Loque wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020

feature creep CAN be an issue, but really only when a particular feature is poorly implemented or the feature doesn’t really add much usefulness to the program.Creativemind wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020Totally agree. but to your (correct) point, the vast majority of these industry-standard features aren’t in danger of falling into the second category—sure, not everyone will use all of them, but a large number of people will use most of them. and RS isn’t known for botching features. in fact, given their track record, the likelihood is that they would give them more thought than strictly necessary, and they may end up adding more value than we thought they would.
so the TLDR version is yes, I too wonder wtf these people are going on about.
Yes, I was thinking that, but I want to use the midi controller in the session. Now I am looking if I can set up a way to use keyboard control mapping. So that I use the computer keyboard for recording midi.
A difficulty is that the keyboard control doesn't work as a gate but it toggles. So I need two hits to go to 127 and 0 to create a pulse. Maybe Thor can fix this in a way that the change of value from 127 to 0 also will be seen a a pulse to trigger a midi note.
Yes this is what I do listening afterwards as well. But sometimes I want to record long sessions and make some quick marks for interesting points during recording without thinking to much, just hit a button and continue.
Yea..good point. 90% of the time i use the pop up menu of a device i am looking for "Reset to default" and it takes ages to find it...Maybe i am just getting oldCreativemind wrote: ↑18 Jun 2020Totally agree. I don't think so, but you can upgrade your garage to add more timeless perfections to your collection.
