Feedback using external FX - please help!

Hello!

Does anyone have any advice of how to set this up correctly? I’d really appreciate it.

I am trying to route audio out of Reason from a Subractor, through an FX pedal and back in to a different audio track in Reason.

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to do this without a lot of feedback occurring.

I have a Focusrite Saffire 6i6 USB audio interface with outputs 1+2 connected to my speakers.

Output 3 of the Saffire is connected to an FX pedal which then connects to Input 3 of the Saffire.

I'd expect, when selecting input to the audio track in reason using input 3 of the Saffire that I'd get the signal from the FX pedal "cleanly" - but instead I am getting a massive amount of feedback.

I’m sure I’m not connecting something up correctly. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to using external stuff and could appreciate any advice. that might help.
