Great result, I was expecting less. Quite surprising! 4790K with same RAM, Audio Interface and settings should score a little higher.
I'm sorry, that IS an I7 4790
k... My bad.
You can't even OC a 4790, and it has a stock CPU speed quite lower.
I think you can juice it up a bit, maybe if you use a better graphics card (im using the GPU in the I7), and faster ram, though at the time i bought OCZ @ 1600 Mhz because the CPU did not go faster, but once you start OC'ing you can benefit from faster rams chips... I also did some tests and with the hardware i have it hits a 11000 in CPU mark test without oc, and i saw the common difference was a better GPU.
I remember testing this rig with the previous document with R7. With no oc, it stopped very near the end, with the 4.2GHz oc, it would stop at the same time as Adam Fielding's test which had a 6 core, and @ 4.4 GHz it run the whole document without a single glitch.
I think this CPU can take a hit of 4.7 GHz with air, 5 Liquid (i could get it to 4.6 with the stock cooler, stable!!!!). So, if i ever need a little more juice, i'll invest in some better cooling.
I had a Q6600 with 6 years that died on me last summer. I could debug but i was already thinking about a new pc for the studio, so instead of loosing time bugging the problem i built this rig. Reason 8 runs like a charm, and most of my projects that were hitting almost full dsp bars, only hit 1 or 2 now!
