So what is your favourite electronic music genre? Just interested to see what people here say. What comes out best.

I will run the poll for 2 weeks. You can only vote once, so think about it. You can vote for 3 genres in a vote.

You can only put 10 options so had to narrow it down. There's 22 in all, sorry if yours didn't make the cut. I chose what I felt were the main 10.

Thanks!

I voted for HOUSE...but I didn't see progressive House,New HOUSE,Electro HOUSE,Melbourne Bounce,Big Room House etc....
My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

Aah....I was looking for an explicit list...but it doesn't have to be...list would have been too long....I understand

I think 10 is a bit small for a poll. Should have had more, then I could have included Breakbeat, Dub, Disco, Electronica, IDM, Industrial, Chillout etc. I think chillout would technically come under House again though.

I don't think industriel, IDM or electropop can be considered as EDM (which stands for Electronic Dance Music)... Some electronic music genres are not really "danceable"!

I won't vote precisely because I tend to dislike any kind of electronic music that is primarily "danceable"! This poll is not for me! :D

there are only two genres of music worth talking about, as far as I'm concerned:

- good
- bad

my favorite genre is good music, by far.

;)
I write music for good people

I always considered electronic music to be the kind made by people like Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach or Micheal Sterns. I dont think these guys fit into your list.

That's likely why the OP asked about our favourite "EDM" genre, and not about our favourite "electronic music" genre...

The results of this (even though only about a third of all the edm genres are votable on, but I think the main ones are on there) should be very interesting.

Yeah but still a sub-genre of House, the first and third videos there are House mate, if it be electro-house it's still house. I couldn't have more than 10 so I had to narrow it down. I listed the main genres that encompass everything I thought would fit. Like if you like Trap, you'd vote Dubstep as it's a subgenre of Dubstep (I think) and if you like Psytrance, you vote Trance. I like Old Skool House and Chicago House but all still house.

Sorry just looked it up, Trap is a variation of Rap using an 808, think it's Trapstep I musta been thinking of.

That third video is a cracking tune as well.

If I was to list all genres of Electronic Music / EDM I would have had to list about 90. There's 87 listed on http://www.di.fm

Wikipedia lists 178!

Electro is a type of house? Lol
It's been around longer than house and is closer to techno (the mother of techno). You really need to brush up on your dance music history. The fact there's a sub genre called electro-house means it's obvious someone had the idea of mixing two DIFFERENT genres to make what's known as a fusion genre. People in the electro scene also try and distance themselves from electro-house too.

Also you say you only list the main genres (except electro) but wouldn't D&B and jungle be the same? Those are much closer than house and electro. You could probably chuck hardstyle in with hardcore too, which are looking like wasted options because nobody has voted for them.

Just because you're ignorant to electro and how important it is doesn't make it a sub-genre of house. There's a whole spectrum of electro with its on sub-genres from the more Detroit/sci-fi stuff to the New York/hip hop breakdancing scene.

I'd vote techno for this. I like Drexciya, Juan and similar stuff and I'd categorise it under techno if I had to.

Ok so I got it wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electro_(music)

Sounds like House though. If there was more options I would've added it but sadly there was only 10. Think it's the use of an 808 that makes it sound housey.

No option for electronic rock? This saddens me and, thusly, I'm afraid, I cannot vote.
