Hey ya'll,
Just like the title says what limiter are you rocking with the most and why? I had been using the Ozone one, though it's been discontinued and the sound was very transparent and it could be pushed hard without distortion.
However, I recently picked up the Onyx one and it sounds great; especially on the tube modeling setting which gives it some grit and color. I like it a lot.
So... what are you guys using?

In Reason DAW… the M-Class Maximiser limiter. When I use Reason as RRP in Ableton Live, I use the Ableton stock Limiter. Both equally good as ‘safety net’ brick wall limiters across master output to save my ears and monitors (which is mostly what I use limiters for).

when cakewalk La2a discontinued in rack extension format, this is the best alternative i know,
used it several times with Fuse Audios free RS W 2395c preconnected.

as well hornetplugins HA2A works well als limiter and has a little bit more transparent sound

Is ozone 10 out of scope? It is accessible in vst3 so can be used in Reason. It is an excellent mastering limiter supporting many algorithms and autodetect lufs level. There is also a softcliper. Totally overkill if it is just peak limiting a channel though.

Aww man that gui looks nice, and it's cheaper than the onyx. At 23 euros it looks like a steal deal...

The controls on this are a little confusing to me but it does look nice. It has an old school, vintage appeal that'll make you buy for the graphics alonemoalla wrote: ↑06 Feb 2023free TLS 1295 LEA

Ozone in my opinion, is the cleanest "neutral" sounding maximizer. If you have a bunk sounding mix, it certainly won't help you conceal that.. trust me, I know all about making bunk mixes frfr.

I was looking at the Kratos too when I got the onyx. Kuassa makes great REs as I already have most of their guitar amps plus the eve 3 band eq that I sometimes use on the master bus.marcuswitt wrote: ↑07 Feb 20231. I agree. I stopped using Live years ago though as it's very expensive and Reason is just way too much fun to play in.MuttReason wrote: ↑06 Feb 2023In Reason DAW… the M-Class Maximiser limiter. Ha ha, I don't know what bunk sounding mix, I am not native English speaker, but if there is a maximizer helping to make things sound better magically, I am all for it .FrankJaeger wrote: ↑07 Feb 2023Ozone in my opinion, is the cleanest "neutral" sounding maximizer. There is this rob papen tool, mastermagic, which is supposed to add a magic touch. It didn't really work for me.

I use the free Kilohearts limiter RE, and Ozone 9 - I have IK's stuff but never got an better results than Ozone, so I stick with that. I use the Kilohearts one more as a "working" limiter while I'm still creating, and switch to Ozone when it's time to max the buffer and go to town.
This Plug is a updated plugin from 2010, the developer offers also a limiter and maximizer, but only 64bit linux, old ones 32bit win.FrankJaeger wrote: ↑07 Feb 2023The controls on this are a little confusing to me but it does look nice. I would love to make a comparison bettween Tls1295 and Cakewalks Ca2a, but theirs no chance to get it now, made only a comparisson with Ha2a what
uses internaly 64bit 96khz signal processing independent from the DAW sample rate, what is sounding more accurate than Tls1295 but produces artifacts if you dial the switchs to fast , at least on my old thinkpad. Comparatively most software compressors sounds cheap/disgusting in comparrison with a major hardware comp like purples MC77. if you can believe the audio examples of a producer at a different forum these days, where the only one how can hold up was softubes fet mk2......
Tls1295 is beside Limiter no. 6 by Vladg the best free limiter, i would say
Red Rocks C1l1 are based on Vladg molot engine and works as well as limiter

Kratos is great, it's the one I use most for simple set-and-forget peak limiting. Buy the whole bundle and stop collecting vst's. The most transparent limiters/compressors that let you get loud mixes I've ever used well worth the money. Softube is top notch at getting the closes to hardware, they nailed the Tape vst in a shootout with a Reel to Reel.

This is a emulation of a $10,000 digital hardware compressor/Limiter coded line-by- line 1:1.
The Weiss DS1-MK3 plug-in is built on that legacy. We took the same fastidious approach we take to emulation and applied it to the process of code porting the DS1-MK3 line-by-line. This means the code of the original hardware is identical to the code found in the DS1-MK3 plug-in. It isn’t an exacting emulation. It’s the exact same product. The result is nothing less than the authentically transparent sound quality of the master of mastering processors, Weiss DS1-MK3.

Yepp, the Onyx is also great, indeed. I sometimes use it in 'Tube' or 'Tape' in order to saturate the Drums and/or Bass subgroups. The only complaint I have about Onyx is that it produces crackling noise as you're turing the Gain and Threshold knobs. Other than that I like Onyx quite much.FrankJaeger wrote: ↑07 Feb 2023I was looking at the Kratos too when I got the onyx. That's true. I thought it was just my ancient laptop not being able to keep up. Good to know it's not actually my system tapping out.marcuswitt wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023Yepp, the Onyx is also great, indeed. This is my master output chain in Reason currently. I've been Meaning to try the Kuassa Kratos 2 RE to see how it shapes up against Ozone;
