What does the "Q" stand for?

EDIT: mods/admins, please move to General ...or I guess, The Kitchen. Thanks!

Yeah, the title is confusing - on purpose

I mean the tool keyboard shortcuts:
W - is for draW
E - is for Eraser
R - is for Razor
T - is for muTe
Y - is for magnifY

So, what's Q for?

No Q in "pointer", "arrow". Maybe "Qrsor"? Or a tool to "poQe" stuff with? :P

BTW, wish those shortcuts were momentary, i.e. holding W would enable the pencil tool, but letting go off the key would go back to whatever was selected earlier - it's very handy in Bitwig.

I think it's fairly obvious that Q stands for quarantine.

Q stands for question. Do you really need to ask?

I stands because I don’t have a chair.

This thread is proof that RT has officially and thoroughly covered every possible topic relating to Reason.

Y - is for magnifY
with german iso-de layout there is the "Z" so that makes sense for Zoom. just as a sidenote.

and for the Q. i gues its just a good position for the pinky when editing stuff.

But does "zoom" mean the same in German? ;)

I don't think any of these were thought like this. It was just a question of order, they could have just use 12345 or any other combination. Of course the other keyboard shortcuts have some relation to the function they evoque but in english you don't say kuantize...

Nevertheless, imho, we should be able to redefine these mappings.

Who knows. I mentioned that, because most DAWs use number keys indeed, so seeing Reason using letters made me wonder. Also, that's how I remember which key does what, except for Q which I couldn't map to anything reasonable. But, from now on, "quiver" it is :)

I know it's not the same thing you are suggesting, but there is the option to hold Command (or I guess Control on Windows?) to alternate between two tools momentarily (Arrow/Pencil, Pencil/Arrow, Eraser/Pencil, Razor/Pencil, Mute/Razor, Magnify/Hand, Hand/Magnify).

I think it's handy to keep it on the Arrow Tool and then toggle to the Pencil Tool momentarily while holding Command. You can then also press and hold Command+Option to toggle momentarily to the multi-note Pencil Tool.

I know this isn’t exactly what you’re suggesting, but I find it quite useful. There IS a temporary tool switching behavior in Reason but it is limited. For example, when you select the (default) arrow/selector tool (“Q”) you can hold down command (Mac) and it will turn to the Pencil tool. Super handy, actually.
It works the opposite way when the Pencil tool is selected.
Eraser and Razor also alternate to pencil.
Mute alternates with Razor.
Zoom alternates with the Hand tool, and vice versa (“U”, the poor lonely tool everyone forgets about!). ;)

This has been a public service announcement!

[second time today, someone posts the same thing while I’m taking my sweet ass time to write…!]

Q is the set of all rational numbers. P numbers need not apply.
