VST 3 roll out in Reason
Hello everyone
So I have searched my ass off trying to get a straight answer about this VST3 implementation....
I was considering getting some kind of VST wrapper, but a couple I've tried (freeware stuff) weren't working for me.
So could someone from Propellerhead's staff please speak up?
Is it DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS etc. before you guys roll this thing out?
If anyone else knows anything I would be grateful.
Peace (sort of)
Ed

In the latest roadmap update, as of last month, they said:
Since they just recently shifted focus to VST3, I would guess it's months away. I would estimate "end of year" to be December, but at the earliest, the fourth quarter (October-December).
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7528226Having fixed the issues in Reason 12, we are now working full throttle on VST3 support. Our VST3 hosting can already load and play instruments and effects, but many refinements are left, and we are expecting it to reach your hands end of year.

The Reason Rack plug-in is currently only compatible with DAW's which use the . vst3 or AU plug-in format. AAX compatibility is currently under development and will be available later this year. Reason 11 has a new feature that allows you to use the Reason Rack as a third-party VST3 plug-in within a DAW.
I'm curious.. Will the VST3 update bring side-chain to WAVES VSTs?
I didn't want to start a new thread.. - sorry for side question. ...

Did i read that right.. update due end of year!? Insert laugh/cry lol

I'm guessing those testing it are under NDA so aren't able to share.

Before releasing VST3 they should fix their VST2 implementation. It is clunky. Found a bug today related to external VST plugin usage in Reason and became totally skeptical that their implementation of VST3 gonna be worthwile. It is not a "game breaking" bug, but still a bug. Before submitting a ticket I need to test it on Ableton though.

If we're lucky they implement VST3 new and completely to spec and then redo their VST2 implementation on top of this new code base.
If we're unlucky they introduce (buggy and incomplete) VST3 support as the last thing in the R12 cycle and leave VST2 as is and then remove VST2 support with Reason 13.

That's why I love reason even more since I use it as a plugin and not a DAW...

I was hoping we could just skip to VST4. It's the one that's an NFT with VR and AI/XR using the Groovie engine.
In all seriousness - the ReasonStudio devs are about quality. They won't taint the code unless it's stenhård. VST3 will arrive eventually. I know that other DAWs already have it, but Reason has a lot of goodies that other DAWs don't. I guess this is just another post where I recommend being patient and enjoying the current state of Reason. The trick is to spank the dancefloor using 100% stock. Get there, then add MasterMatic EasyMix 3 once you've hit a wall with stock/RE/VST2.

Well it's now November. Any bets on them making it by the end of the year?
Still 2 Months...probably enough time. I start betting they make it.Vujadejunky wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022Well it's now November. Any bets on them making it by the end of the year?
On xmas without a VST3 release, i start betting against them

In about a month from now there will be a meeting at RS that goes something like:Loque wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022Still 2 Months...probably enough time. I start betting they make it.Vujadejunky wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022Well it's now November. Any bets on them making it by the end of the year?

Dev: "It's not quite ready yet"
Product Manager: "We have to release it - we said we would"
Dev: "But it's not quite ready yet"
PM: "It must be mostly ready, you've been working on it for months"
Dev: "Yes but..."
PM: "We'll release it. We can always patch it later. Now how are we doing with that M1 stuff?"
Agree. But in reality it will be shorter:DaveyG wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022In about a month from now there will be a meeting at RS that goes something like:

PM: "Is VST3 ready to roll out?"
Dev: "No, we still need XXX days and have YYY open bugs and ZZZ missing features."
PM: "Ok, we release it tomorrow."
Or as the Boing conversation was:
PM: "Does it fly?"
Dev: "No!"
PM: "Great! We release it and make big money. My stock options will make me rich!"

Every time I read "VST 3 roll out in Reason" after a refresh, my heart skips a beat. Not yet! I am a little , but not long enough for skipping making beats

When I got the upgrade to 12 I thought it was going to be like a couple of months that they were going to drop VST3. Then I read end of year. And it really is getting to the end of the year lol
This is close but you forgot about marketing getting involved with a campaign to sell more R+ yearly subscriptions at 60% off because vst3 is on its way....DaveyG wrote: ↑02 Nov 2022
