Kong has always been a bit confusing to me.

So, I make an "808" diving bass drum on Kong pad 1. How do I set up Kong to play this single pad chromatically across the keyboard and not just triggered by C3? I want to vary the pitch via MIDI note. Is this possible? It's trivial to do in Maschine but I'm trying to stay more in Reason.

kong is built for the 16 pad inputs, what you are talking about sounds like a sampler such as the NNXT or NN19. record the kick you made in kong into one of those devices or mimic if youve got it

That's no good because you have the "chipmunk" effect. I suppose Mimic stretch algos could do it but it's still not going to sound great.

I guess I should clarify that I'm talking about using Kong's Bass Drum synth module and not a sampled 808.

I think that does what you want but the Kong synth doesn't have a lot of pitch range. I think it might be easier to just use another synth and make a chromatic drum sound there.

If you need to stick to Kong, you might have better luck using a wide Pitch Bend amount and programming the notes that way.
The limitation in Kong include a restricted note range for triggering each pad, and lack of "key tracking" for pitch on any pads.
Here is a thread where I posted a chart for all semitone pitch values in a ±1 octave range:

Ok, so I'm gonna say that for my purposes the answer is "it can't be done"

I can get like 80% there adjusting some of the "808" patches in the Reason library. Can't quite match the pitch decay and "boominess" of the Kong patch though. The Kong compressor is also doing some work that I can't replicate.

Here's a screenshot of the Kong patch.

Can anybody get close with one of Reason's synths?

I tried this and you're right that the BD synth doesn't have much pitch range and it doesn't track "properly" for chromatic playing.

Thanks for taking the time though!
