I trialed them both a long time ago and never got to compare them.

The Boom 808 is half price these days but has a very low rating. I was kinda wondering if Boom really is as bad as its rating suggests or if it is time to pick it up over the Jackbox that NEVER EVER is on sale?

Any thoughts?

I own Boom808. Stereo OUTs preserve PAN.
The sounds are absolutely useable. All drums go through processing. And, it has a Boom.
With a MIDI controller and Euclid RE, you can go to town.

Now JB-808 is damn Sexy. Damn sexy. Don't own it... To many real DMs.
Nice form factor.

I got B808 because I'll never own a real T808, but I wanted to understand the layout. No regrets.
I use Tick to program my TR-8 so I can preserve sequences per song in reason. Kinds like EMI and midi notes.
2 cents.

Have you checked out the Jiggery Pokery Kings of Kong refill? Worth a look before you commit to either of these REs. It has the 808, as well as a shitload of other excellent emulations (check the patch list http://www.jiggery-pokery.com/kok.html )

That said, I have Boom 808 and I like it a lot. Interface is great, and you can keyboard track the kick drum for cool (if limited) synth possibilities. Plus, as already noted it has stereo outs. A bit steep at the regular price, but for $30 it's fine

The best Reason 808 is Phuturetone. If they made it into a a Rack Extension I would buy it!

Hi, I have purchased the Quadrelectra 808 just a couple of days ago, after much, much hesitation. It sounds great but it probably looks better ;) I have also the King of Kong refill which plenty satisfies any retro drum machine kit need but I see myself using the Quadrelectra much more (as I've been doing for a good year with the 7R-909), simply due to the very appealing interface. I will say it must be psychological.. After all, the Quadrelectra's 808 and 909, a part from round-robin style variation (unstable transistor emulation), do not offer much as sound modules. For instance, the Boom has pitch... With the 7R-808, pitching your kick would require some post processing as going with Neptune (as one of the included combinators does) or even Polar, simply isn't acceptable. By the way, in light of this I have at last realised the very TR-808 didn't have pitch on kick and snare.. go figure ;)

This one is amazing, and totally free. Haven't tried the rack extension 808's yet but I don't feel like I need to with this refill.

I like the jackbox stuff! Maybe a bit pricy for what they are but I like the UI, the CV and audio breakouts and just the way they sit in the mix. Not quite as much flexibility as boom, but I prefer it.

Thank you all for your thoughts!

I do own the excellent Kings Of Kong refill but I still crave the Jackbox.

I'm confident now that Boom 808 is better than its rating but I still crave the Jackbox.

So I guess this boils down to 'when' rather than 'if' I'm going to get the Jackbox.

It would be neat if Quadelectra did a Jackbox 7R-606
