I see the C670 Compressor a lot in mastering chains on youtube. Is it in yours. Do you use/like it?

I love that freaking compressor...sounds warm and fat...Only negative is if you have a sound playing, say a kick...then the kick stops..then starts again..the plugin will basically miss the first transient in a noticeable way.
The work around I used to avoid this was to render the kick in to a wave then deleting the "bad kick" or the missed kick.

Found an old post:

For compression I've only ever used the MClass Compressor. I've still got the McDSP bundle sitting in my basket at the minute. But I think probably only 1 of the bundle would get used, as most of my stuff is predominantly electronic. Did you ever try the McDSP to compare to the FET pjeudy?
Yea I have it...My Honest opinion ?????? GET THE FET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok The C670 from McDSP I like the Most out of the 3 ! But TheoM mentioned this a long time ago ..I didn't have it at the time so I paid no atettion to it..that is until I bought it....Now, I still like how it sounds ..but IT'S a slow response compressor, if I use it on a kick ...play the kick ..stop it then play it again..the first kick sound weird it's as if the compressor is a sleep then after the first kick passes by it then starts to work again...but it misses that first kick.....
I think Selig said he didn't notice at first and it didn't bother him (I think) But I wasn't looking for it...but then noticed it, that's when I thought of what TheoM was saying.

But not just for that, you'll be 100% happy with FET over McDSP ....If your like me, because the FET is very fast and has way more parameters then the McDSP...see the above Post ^^^^ for the FET features

McDSP :
Image
Threshold--constant--out gain.....That's it! I mean it has it's usage...But In My Opinion if you don't have either one of them yet..then start with the FET... it's much...much...more flexible then the McDSP ..just look at the features it has!

One other option...The FET is on sale till the end of the year so you have plenty of time to buy it...the McDSP....so far they been on sale every major Holiday time and they are 50 for all 3...you can get the McDSP now...then save up for the FET you have about 31 days ! Even with that said I'll say again FET all the way !!!!!!
My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

To give you an audio example of the compressor, because who cares about words when it comes to music really? You want to hear it in action right?

I used C670 all over the place for this track. It's on everything except the drums and the noise sweeps. It's a slow and gentle compressor. It's very subtle but imo it adds a vintage feel to the sound. That's vague as hell I know but it's the best explanation I can give you unfortunately.

For the drums I used the FRG-4RE Compressor (also from McDSP) which is more aggressive and awesome for adding punch to the drums. FRG-4RE is my favorite compressor for anything drum related. You can really crank it and it still sounds natural.

This was my song entry for the Legend song challenge so I wanted that old vintage feel to it which is why C670 just seemed to fit.
By the way every sound in this track comes from the Legend, synths, drums, reverbs/delays. I really can't recommend The Legend enough. I love it.

So to sum it up: C670 is a good compressor for the gentle, subtle and vintagey stuff.
But man if you haven't bought Legend or FRG-4RE yet I'd seriously look into those as well.

Very easy compressor that just works, but nothing for special fx. If you want more control or fx, grab FRG or FET. The Moo compressor is, well, moohh imo.

I downloaded the trial of the legend last week. It's the best moog emulation ever. They nailed it. I was shocked. I thought Arturia had the best emulation but not anymore. The legend is flawless

I regret buying it. Don't like it much. Only useful on subtle settings but I prefer other compressors for these things better.

I think the same about Mo tube. I don't hear so much "warm" when is engaged.

There's also the Mace: https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/ ... ompressor/

Haven't gotten around to trying it myself yet though.

I always find it funny how opinions can be so different. I tried the Mace some time ago just because so many people liked it and said good things about it.
Well it did nothing for me, I just didn't like the results at all. I even tried it a second time just in case I was wrong the first time. No, I simply didn't like it.

It just goes to show that you can never trust anyones opinion with these things. Making music is such a personal thing and we all find our own ways of working and creating. Always try the REs out for yourself. That's my advice.

By the way I'm not saying the Mace is a bad compressor. Lots of people love it. It simply didn't work for me.

If the SSL compressor was a RE many people would buy it I am sure. It's a great compressor imo.

It doesn't appear to be...looks like it's modeled on a modern tube comp per the Phead shop. I like to think that it's similar in theory to an Elop. :)

I'm pretty sure the Moo Tube was modeled after the Manley Stereo Variable Mu. (Well, a modified version of the Manley Stereo Variable Mu without the separate controls for each channel, at any rate.) Though, if I'm wrong, I would love to be corrected.

I'm pretty bad when it comes to compressors, so I end up using the C670 a lot just cause it's so simple to setup.
Have tinkered with the RE-2A recently and I'm starting to like it more and more!

the re-2a is a classic. i use that a lot. i got it when they gave it away free. I've used the waves version for years. It's nice to have in reason as well.

Waves version sounds totally different than the RE-2A. The RE-2A adds that magical midrange saturation, the Waves seems to be totally lacking it.
