RE 200 Bass Enhancer
Is there any major differences between the (RE 200 Bass Enhancer on sale now )
and SubColours Octave Diver From Turn 2 On (which I own)
Do they do pretty much the same thing ? Or does the RE 200 Bass Enhancer from Red Rock Sound , have some secret sauce in it ?

RE 200 Bass Enhancer is by Red Rock Sound not Blamsoft. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question.moneykube wrote: ↑26 Jan 2022Is there any major differences between the (RE 200 Bass Enhancer on sale now )

They aren't the same thing. Octave Diver is an octave divider (analyzes the fundamental frequency of the incoming sound and divides it by two) plus a lot of other interesting stuff.
RE200 simply enhances low frequencies with overtones that create more presence and an illusion of a sub-octave.

Also, RE200 ain't all that great

Well, sure. But that goes for all bass enhancers. I'm not saying Red Rock's is a bad product, I use it sometimes and it does an OK job. But there are certainly better ones out there
ok... do you have any suggestions or links to the better ones?

Sure. But of course these are all "better" for me, if someone else is getting good results with Red Rock Sound, then more power to them. I just struggle to get good results from it, takes me a lot of fiddling
Three of my favourites are are Waves plugins, so that might be a deal breaker for some people. But I get a lot of use out of Vitamin (multiband, does a great job right across the frequency spectrum), Lo Air (for creating subharmonics) and Renaissance Bass (a bass bigger-upper for playback on systems that don't push a lot of air). The one Waves bass enhancer that I don't like is Maxx Bass
Melda MBassador is good too - I think this one somehow recreates bass frequencies instead of "enhancing" by adding harmonic content to what's already there - whatever, I like it
For drums & percussion, you can't go past Metric Halo Thump (which is free)
But a bass enhancement trick that often works is simply to use a band splitter and dial in some saturation on the low end. Plenty of candidates for this, but Klanghelm SDRR2 is particularly good (and imo a must-have in anyone's saturation plugin arsenal)

SDRR2 is a secret weapon. I can't believe more people don't use it, or if they do, they don't talk about it. Same goes for MJUC and DC8C3.

Yep. Klanghelm plugins are insanely good value too, like you I often wonder why they're not better knownhuggermugger wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022SDRR2 is a secret weapon. I can't believe more people don't use it, or if they do, they don't talk about it. Same goes for MJUC and DC8C3.
This has been Klanghelm Appreciation Hour with me your host, Ernst von Klanghelm. Thank you for watching
thank you... looking at the suggestions now
Purchased SDRR2 > downloading it now ... thanks again... I love the different modes and the flexibility... way more options... I am super glad I asked the original question. This should work great for my needs.

Would be interesed in how you would rate Infuser here, as you seem to have a lot of experience with these types of effects.dvdrtldg wrote: ↑29 Jan 2022Sure. My ridiculous number of REs/VSTs is the main reason I haven't tried it... decided a while back to rein it in & stop collecting plugins unless they fill a gap that needs filling and are on sale. But I'll take it out for a test drive and see if I can resist buying, it looks really good
From my own experiences, Waves Renaissance Bass is still the best bass enhancer plugin going even after all these years... worth getting the VST and it only costs $29 at the moment...moneykube wrote: ↑26 Jan 2022Is there any major differences between the (RE 200 Bass Enhancer on sale now )

And I'm here like... I've never ever found any use for bass enhancers? What am I missing?

I get the impression they're mostly useful if you're trying to make somebody else's bass sound good.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑31 Jan 2022And I'm here like... I've never ever found any use for bass enhancers? What am I missing?
(Or yours if you played a bass into a mic and aren't happy with how it came out. )

I keep one in my master section to give everything just a little more oomph, it's dialed in super-subtly. I've used them on other folks' basses too, like integerpoet just mentioned, to thicken them up when the recording wasn't ideal. I do use the Red Rock ones, I like their stuff.
Depends on what they are actually doing IMO. I’ve always liked adding subtle saturation to just certain low frequencies because of how it sounds similar to how some inductors/transformers affect audio. When I first started out, all saturation just sounded like ‘distortion’ to me, at least until I learned about frequency specific saturation (which eventually led to the design of both ColoringEQ snd Infuser).PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑31 Jan 2022And I'm here like... Basically, by ‘warming up’ just the low frequencies you can add harmonic density (girth, bigness) and increase the average energy (loudness) as well without sounding ‘distorted’ (as long as you are careful!).

Interesting I personally only use ColoringEQ applied to middle bands and never on the bottom endselig wrote: ↑06 Feb 2022Depends on what they are actually doing IMO. Well sir you are maybe missing out. Bass saturation brings a whole new feel in the low end. Especially if you play your track in the car or studio speakers you can feel it through your body. It’s a great experiencePhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑31 Jan 2022And I'm here like... I've never ever found any use for bass enhancers? What am I missing?
