Preview and beta call for new Ochen K synth
Great stuff OchenK!ochenk wrote:My latest RE is getting ready for beta testing. It’s a waveshaping synth called 4MER (pronounced either “Former” or “Vormer” depending on how international I’m feeling that day.) Here’s a screen shot of the front:
And here’s a video showing how 4MER works:

This thing looks amazing! Can't wait to try it out. Looks like really nice work there, Ochen K!
I love how you can see all the shapes as you edit them. That makes for really easy programming. I can't wait to get my hands on this RE.

Just to update peeps waiting on this - OchenK just posted on his Facebook wall:
Soon!
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 12 | i7 3770k @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro | Akai MPC Live 2 & Akai Force | Roland System 8, MX1, TB3 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD
Anyone has an early (p)review of this synth? Keen to know how it performs.
Such a clean GUI! And yet so powerful... WOW! Can't wait to try this!
OchenK took a break from testing for redesign purposes. It's back in beta testing as we speak so shouldn't be much longer
I have embraced Allihoopa. Come listen and play with my crap Figure loops here:

I'm excited to see how the GUI has evolved since it was first announced, and whether or not additional changes were made that affect its sound, etc. People had a lot of suggestion, especially with the layout. I hope he kept the waveform gradients.

I heard the guy in the intro beta testing video say: "former or vormer, depending how you want to pronounce it". The word 'vormer' is Dutch or Flemish, so logically i can conclude he is dutch?

Hey everyone.
Yep, 4MER is getting close. The GUI hasn't been redesigned, except where it needed to change to accommodate new features. But during the first round of beta testing back in the summer, a number of feature suggestions were offered that I decided to include for launch, so I went back to the coding phase and built those. Many of those new features required substantial rewrites of 4MER's core audio engine, so in many ways, 4MER was rebuilt from the ground up. That took some time, but it's done. 4MER's been through a second round of beta testing, and is just finishing up now. We're putting patches and demo songs together now, and soon I'll get started on videos and documentation.
4MER has become a surprising little beast. The premise of 4MER when I first started designing it was to build a synth that wasn't scary or intimidating to program. I use a number of synths, in Reason and elsewhere, where the interface is a sea of knobs and I don't really know where to start or really understand what every knob does. I love them, but I'm sometimes intimidated by them. So I wanted 4MER to be instantly intuitive. At the same time, I wanted it to be capable of very complex routings to create rich, complicated, evolving layerings. Reports from beta testers, patch developers, and demo song makers is that we hit that goal pretty well. So I'm very excited to get it out there to the rest of you.
For those who are interested, here's the updated front and back:
And I think someone asked, I'm in Minnesota, USA.

Judging by the necessary ventilation shafts on the back...this thing must really run hot!
Can't wait to Sync, phase, saturate, spread, pulse modulate, harmonize and bit crush some sine waves....I always thought of this device as Blamsoft Zero's little brother...or should I say 4MER little brother...Soon

My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

Hehe!
I was referring to the settings in the image versus in my original patch that still shows by name in that image... And it would be so nice if you could size up the two images properly! This gives me a head ache!
Back to the comparison: The Mod matrix changed to allow for scaling, but apart from that I think most of the changes were internally at that point...

I'm guessing the mod matrix changes were the things that kept Ochen K coding day and night for the past 6 months. Looking forward to the release - it's been a while since we've seen a new synth with such radical custom display widgets. Hoping that factory patches show off its potential.
