Imagine you have to stay on an island and you can take a coputer with Reason installed with you and additional 3 REs.

Which REs would you choose? And why?

1. Etch Red - Awesome soundsculpting Filter

2. GQ7 - Simply because it's a great EQ

3: Auto Theory - Because I totally suck at musical theory :puf_bigsmile:
:?: The question is - Who cares :?:

1. Antidote - Best sounding synth in Reason with very good FX which you can use on all other Reason devices. Best supersaw (beside Megasaur)

2. Zero - Most flexible Synth with great modern patches

3. Mace Compressor - Best all around compressor with visual display

(3.b. would be GQ-7)

Seems like this island is the best place to go back to basics and just use the stock devices to not overwhelm myself too much! ;)

On the other hand, of course...

Echobode - Flexbility, go-to delay, so many gizmos
Uhbik-G - I love what it does while not introducing latency
Kratos - Favorite maximizer/limiter and I never liked the MClass one that much

There should be a reverb on that list, since I missed quality alternatives for ages, but now with all those fancy impulse responses, I turn to RV7K more often again.

I'd take instrument REs, cause I'd mix when I came back from the island - I'm assuming there wouldn't be a great mix environment on an island…

Ha that's a great question Ahornberg :)

1) Blamsoft Zero!

2) Quadelectra's Beatchop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) It would have to be Etch Red!

*I would be very sad about all my missing CV Utility REs :(

AutoArp

Zero

D-Filter

Can someone (or 2) show me some cool examples on what can be accomplished with EtchRed? I hear soo much about it and how great it is. I have it, but the magic hasn't clicked with me yet. The concept of multi-filters is a little over my head and something I'd like to get into

Only 3 REs? better go for maximum versatility:

1. Etch Red because it's a great all-in-one filter with excellent distortion to boot

2. Synapse GQ-7 because it's a great all-in-one EQ with nice steep hi/low pass shelves to boot

3. I'm tempted to say Zero because it's awesome, but I might stick with the stock Reason synths instead and go with Shape LFO. That thing is a beast for CV tweakery

Antidote - It's like you have to make an effort to make it sound bad. And also great effects that could be used on other synths too.

GQ-7 - Just a great EQ overall. Sounds good, lots of options and many filter slopes to choose from, nice to be able to see the frequencies and finally it just looks good.

I really want to say FRE-4RE Compressor because I use that thing on drums all the time, but it would be really hard to live without Softubes Saturation Knob. You just gotta be able to add some subtle distortion. Scream 4 is fine, but it's very much on or off with that thing.

Thank you all for your submissions. After careful consideration, it has been decided that the Desert Island Bundle will consist of:

1 synth: WBL5515 Dual Triple-Loop Oscillator.
1 effect: SB Slice Arranger.
1 utility: Morfin XF Crossfader.

arg! threads like these feed my OCD! the thought alone is so horrible!!

if it really had to be just 3, I'd probably take
  • D16 Decimort2 (just love the way its rate reduction sounds in combination with its digital filter)
  • JPS Harmonic Synthesizer (for pad layering, glassy bell sounds, and its multi-effects section, especially the chorus)
  • RP Verb (rv7000 is very good but I like this one better for long ambient reverbs)
..but only under the condition that I also may take these 3 hardware synths:
  • Elektron Analog Rytm (drum programming ITB is no fun and this is currently the best allround drum computer)
  • DSI Prophet 08 (no way I'd leave w/o an analog poly. not the best one in the world but the one I have :-))
  • Moog Sub37 (for bass/lead sounds, and filtering external signals)

1) Propellerhead Power Chords A-List Electric Guitarist
2) Kuassa Amplifikation Vermilion
3) Quadelectra M/S Stereo Splitter

Why ? Anything else like compression and EQ can be done in the SSL, but there's no way to get a power guitar arrangement like in the chorus of the following arrangement without these added RE's :

Tough question...

1) Antidote
2) Echobode
3) Synchronous

...

Taking into account what Jiggery said:

4) Monopoly
5) Futzbox
6) Polar
7) Uhbik-A
8) Ammo 100LA

:P

1. Antidote (obvious pick since this is the best RE synth, and it comes packed with an amazing array of FX)
2. Synchronous (I've used this one for so many things, can't live without it anymore)
3. Korg Monopoly (it makes the bass sounds that I really need, I love it)
