Hey, are there some documents or articles describing how Radical Piano is programmed? I mean this does not like full physical modelling like PianoTeq, it's a combination of samples and modelling, like Roland V Piano I guess. Did PH share some details? There is literally nothing in the documentation (operation guide).
I am currently evaluating it, sounds great to me and perhaps it is a buy but I am interested in more details. Have you observed some more details about it? I was only able to play around with string resonance, sounds great.
Radical Piano technology
It's sample based, much like the Kontakt concert pianos.
What is modelled is the behavior. When your keys are released Radical Pianos responds to that event by triggering release behavior and sounds, which are all configurable. Even pressing and releasing the sustain pedal can excite the strings (expressed by playing back samples of all strings being excited).
It models leakage too IIRC, so that when you play one note you can hear other strings resonating, just like in a real piano.
It's one of my favourite modelled pianos. I like the sound and the way it can be configured. I prefer it over the sound of Pianotek and even the Alicia Keys piano in Kontakt (at least when practicing).

Yep. Honestly, I find Radical Piano to be incredibly underrated. I think the issue is that, like with everything else in Reason, it's very easy to make it sound absolutely horrible, and can take some skill to really make it shine, and god knows the stock patchbank leaves plenty to be desired. But if you know what you're doing, and especially if you throw in some clever use of multiple instances and some well-done combi programming, you can absolutely create patches with Radical Piano that rival some of the better Kontakt piano libraries. Everyone who complains about there not being enough high-quality pianos for Reason should look into it more deeply.
would be nice to have a community refill with great radical piano patches. For marketing purposes, Props could also share patches for their devices from time to time...househoppin09 wrote:Everyone who complains about there not being enough high-quality pianos for Reason should look into it more deeply.

I want to like Radical Piano. It seems to have potential. But it always seems to have this plinky sound in the upper mids that I can't get past. Like it's always got a bit of ragtime sound to it.
on my personal taste a random patch piano from Logic X's stock devices sounds 100 times better than Radical Pianos and Reason Pianos refill..it never convinced me at all...

To me Radical Piano RE is one of the best and most credible emulation of a real acoustic Piano, no matter what technology it is based on. From my perspective Radical Piano possesses a unique character and some kind of liveliness that makes it fun to play.
Shame I can't give it a second chance to try it again... [emoji15] [emoji20]marcuswitt wrote:Fair enough. I wonder if it is really sample based (full samples) or only attack of the samples (Hammer sounds) and then modeling of strings. That's how Roland do it.
Anyway, my expired demo has been replaced with full version just moment ago. May Madness Sale, it was incredibly $39 (I also chipped in and got PX7 RE).

I'm just trialling now, and I totally agree with you. Also as send effect it's fantastic, just put it in theater mode on the drums, it's unique.marcuswitt wrote:Fair enough.
