It's no different than a refill that focusses on creating instruments. Not every instrument will work in your tracks right? Same thing here. But a good effects ReFill will have effects that work with a variety of sound sources. I can tell you that I use a variety of sound sources when developing my ReFills. From Basses to Pads to Guitars to Drums to Loops. And I try to provide a myriad of different effects that work with all kinds of source material. No, not every patch will work with every sound source. But with 400 patches, there will be many that will.Dave909 wrote:Is it just me or are effect patches just useless? How could a certain patch ever sound the same on different source material?
Also, it's about creativity. A good ReFill will also showcase the limits and all aspects of the device and what it can do. There may be patches in there that you hadn't thought of putting together. Or you may find a new interesting use for a patch that was developed with a Pad in mind, but apply it to a drum loop and it works in a new creative way.
Now, if you are the type of person that develops your sounds and your effects from scratch, you might have this perspective. And that's perfectly fine and valid. But then, you'd probably not be buying any ReFills in the first place.
So are they useless? Nope. They are just as important as instrument refills.

Using fx on sounds you think sounds "good" can make them sound even better (or worse)
Sometimes it can sparkle inspiration

I completely agree. That's why it's nice to have a variety of effects used in different ways. The more, the better. And with 800 different scream algorithms and combinations. Well, I think that's a LOT of possibilities.Marc64 wrote:Using fx on sounds you think sounds "good" can make them sound even better (or worse)
