Has anybody figured out a way to emulate a proper Beatles style Automatic Double Track with a combi of stock devices and/or REs? i supposed it would 'wobble' a variable delay and pitch shift, and mix it back with the original signal?

Polar can do pretty much every variation of ADT, either by simply delaying one side, or by adding a variable delay and/or pitch shift ("flanging"), which can then be be applied to one side or both. I don't think there is a "proper" Beatles ADT, they would change their setup for every song, and adapt their techniques to whatever sound they wanted to achieve. But essentially it's just a delay (under 30ms, to benefit from the Haas effect) with different effects being applied to each voice. Polar has quite a number of patches dedicated to this (Analog Drifter, Vocal Doubler Subtle, Classic Stereo Spread...). If you don't have it, I'd recommend trialing it (it's also available in the Mix & Mastering Rig 2 bundle in case you're interested).

The Wikipedia page about ADT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_double_tracking) gives some details about the precise technique used for several songs. For instance, Eleanor Bigsby - sorry, I meant Rigby :) - was a mix of ADT and normal double tracking. Very interesting read. Discovered it last week after reading Chenille's manual...
