Synthwave Dr. OctoRex drum refill?

I find the stock drums (even Loop Supply) to be very limited in variety, basically it all seems to be oriented to a particular kind of music (even the Pop collection is basically the same).

So I'm hoping there's a refill that covers a more classic synthwave style of drum loops?

(btw is there a search function for the reason shop? A general google search didn't turn up much)

Loops or sounds? The most used drumsounds in synthwave are from the obvious drummachines, like the LinDrum, TR-707 and Oberheim's DMX. All are available as RE emulations. The drum-loops in synthwave are rather basic four to the floor kick/snare patterns with 16th hihats on top.

You can get ALL the drummachine samples by getting the Kings of Kong refill, which also comes with a bunch of rex-loops: https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/prod ... s-of-kong/

Synthwave didn't exist back when Propellerhead put together those drums and loops. I think it was 1974 but I might be misremembering.

I've got all the samples and drum machines, but I'm no drummer, so yeah some loops would be nice. :)

Sure, but the lack of variety in the Dr OctoRex presets is pretty shocking. It's just endless minor variations on the same basic beat with different drum samples. Totally phoned in, IMHO.

Yeah, so it’s really not adding anything new sadly. Surprised that this has not been created.

There’s probably something I can use in Vintage Vault.

I have a bunch of Linn drums samples and Alesis HR16 samples(DLed for free on the internet) that are great when used in the umpf retro. Many of the Samples used the UMPF Retro RE also fit this. Don't forget to file in some hum and that sweet tape compression. Use the gatted reverb to taste. UMPF is simple but so were the drum machines in the 80s. Be well keep making the music you love.

There are some 80's street beat rx2 files floating around in the - Loop Supply / HOUSE section. Look for the file titled Airwolf and then the genre ends with Wingman.

Synthwave : This was free for a while : https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/arcade/

I also picked up these two packs : https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/prod ... ic-boogie/

https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/prod ... flashback/

Wav and Midi files included with all. Neon, is a bit too pop for my liking so I purchased when on offer because I wanted the files for that first tune in the audio examples.

Just wanted to show there is Synthwave about in Rex form and they go on sale, too. Great to mix and match sample packs

Use the ReDrum Kits in the Reason Factory Sound Bank and the Drum Sequencer Player with the Rytmik drums and the Beatmap with Kong.

Thanks for these pointers.

@mimidancer. Thanks, but I’m overflowing with samples :)

@arpeg: cool, I’ll check those out.

@jfrichards: that looks interesting. I’ve been exploring beatmap to try and get some interesting kick, snare, hi-hat combos. I’ll try your suggestions out.
