Transient Shaped Dialog?

Interesting discussion and analysis here! I refuse to listen to the provided clip for fear of developing an ear for hearing this artifact in shows I watch. LOL! ;-) I've not noticed it on Arrow, the show that crossed-over to create The Flash, so the effect isn't everywhere yet. I did look, Mozart i...

Transient Shaped Dialog?

As I was recording it, and saw the audio plot on the track, I knew that cliff face was going to be to blame. I don't think it is something being applied per actor. But it does seem to stand out more on lower pitched sounds. As I said, the deeper male voices are usually hit with this artifact in almo...

Transient Shaped Dialog?

I was thinking about doing just that. Here's a snippet of dialog from the most recent Flash episode. http://scuzzyeye.com/tests/Transient-Flash.wav The worst offender is the "absolutely" that's said at about 2 second in, and then the "say" in "have to say" at 12 seconds is also pretty bad, and then ...

Hey Video Makers.

Curious why you'd need a capture card in this day and age? :) I was saying this above. In pro studios the cameras have SDI outputs, and the signal is sent to the recorder over coax. That's how you record uncompressed frames. But on consumer equipment there is no SDI. But in recent years the analog ...

PX-7 Operators Must Need Additive Waveforms( Title Edited )

hydlide wrote:I have done some experimenting with the Wavetable OSC (RE) to FM it. It sounds promising as long if you keep the wave forms like COS/Sine based.
The sines in the Yamaha's OPL chips were generated by tables, so that's not surprising. :)

Transient Shaped Dialog?

Yeah, it may not be a transient shaper, per se, but something changing the shape of the attack on the way to achieving another goal. E.g. An automatic tool for more even dialog, without having to do the work of going in and adjusting levels of each line.

Transient Shaped Dialog?

I've recently started noticing something annoying in TV show dialog. I first heard it when watching Mozart in the Jungle on Amazon Video. But then I heard it on a recent episode of The Flash. I'm wondering if it is something new, or it's just one of those "once you hear it, you can't stop hearing it...

PX-7 Operators Must Need Additive Waveforms( Title Edited )

FM synthesis is already difficult enough to get a grasp of how adjusting one parameter is going to change the final waveform. Having 8 operators, in a multitude of routing algorithms, and complex waves all interacting would likely make it nearly impossible to understand what's going on. It would jus...

Focusrite Saffire & Scarlet users - we have brand new Red Plugins Suite for free!

I've exported from Sonar Platinum at 44.1 and 48 and both files play in Media Player at the correct speed. I've had that happen randomly with various audio interfaces, not just my Focusrite. It usually happens when I start my web browser, and play something in Flash, and then start an ASIO program ...

Giving away Ableton Live Lite 9

I got a copy of Live Lite 7 with my Line 6 KB37, and registered it. I figured I should learn how to use it, as it seems handy for live triggering different parts of a song. I as able to later upgrade it to version 8 for free. Seeing this thread made me want to check out the newest, and I hopped I co...

One thing to look for… You want an editor that can do "native editing" without first transcoding. The camera you mention records AVCHD video, which not every editor can support directly. Consider choosing a "video system" rather than first choosing a camera then settling for editing software that w...

I believe the free mastering, that gives the MP3 output, doesn't allow for selecting of intensity. I think you always get the medium setting.

Hey Video Makers.

Open Broadcast Software  was primarily designed for streaming video to services like Twitch. But it has become a powerful capture program, and is only getting better all the time. It's also free. A lot of people use it to HDMI capture their video game consoles, so I know that works as an input sour...

ScuzzyEye YouTube Channel

Since there were a couple questions about making files with multiple tracks of digital audio smaller, I've made a video showing the process, and giving a bit more insight into how it works.

Broke down

You can export REX loops from Reason. You just open a track, make sure the slices are in the right place. Right click, find the Bounce sub menu, pick Bounce Clip to REX Loop. That'll make the Tool Window pop up with the new loop under All Self-Contained Samples. It should be selected, but if it isn'...

Mono to Stereo

Wow, happy to hear you found some uses for it. The most I've ever done is automate the width of the mixer channel that its on, to make the effect come in when vocals needed to stand out, and then fade back in a slower part of a song. The reason I labeled the one control "Room Size", is because when ...

Radical Kazoo

I'd rather have an A-List Kazoo. I don't want to have to learn how to play one. It'd be more like I hired a session kazzoist who really knows what they are doing with the instrument.

Update Reason 7.1.1

The latest 7.x is indeed 7.1.1, build 5,082. I think the problem in 7.1 was with how track position was reported to REs, so some with built-in sequencers, or other things that sync to the track may have had timing issues. No change to the FSB. It came out pretty quickly after 7.1.

I've used Maelstrom in the past to get a stereo effect. The audio inputs on the Maelstrom each go through one of it's filters. I set one of the filters to comb+ and the other comb- while keeping the freq. and resonance knobs turned all the way down. This is similar to using two EQs to process each ...

Reason targeted ads on ReasonTalk.

I would prefer an annual membership fee over ads. If it is possible, it'd be cool to offer a way to pay to remove ads. So people with subscriptions don't see ads, but everyone else does. That would be fine with me. Though it might be less attractive to advertisers, if the people with money to spare...

When's the best time to downsample?

I always render to 24bits@192kHz then resample it with Sonar pow-r3. Can't prove this is the right thing to do, it just seems better for me. I don't know what algorithm was used (they generally show the best) by http://src.infinitewave.ca/ for the Sonar X3 tests, but Reason 7+ outperforms it. So th...

G8 point update to 1.2

---I realised something new today. if you don't have any trials or betas installed and have local (ie key or hard drive) auth, and the authoriser fails on an RE update, it completely removes all licenses from your authorised device. This is because there's not an individual license file for each de...

When's the best time to downsample?

Oh, if you do have the time to do it once, export the song at 44.1k, and also at 48k. Start a new Reason project with the audio interface set to 44.1, and load both. Set one of the mixer channel to invert, and you can literally hear the difference between the two methods.

When's the best time to downsample?

Reason's resample algorithm, starting with 7.0, is excellent. Though, Audacity's is still slightly better. Can you hear the difference? Probably not, but on paper Audacity wins. It's slightly better to resample each track before rendering them into a single file. That's what Reason is doing, and wha...
