Re: Soundtoys Effect Rack $84 on JRRShop
Awesome - thanks for running the test! Still unsure whether I'll take the plunge or hold out for a while longer and hope the full bundle is dropped in black friday madness. cheers! Considering jumping on this - anyone know if you can automate parameters on the individual plugins within the effect ra...

Re: Soundtoys Effect Rack $84 on JRRShop
Considering jumping on this - anyone know if you can automate parameters on the individual plugins within the effect rack? Edit - just to clarify, I don't mean the reason rack, i mean the soundtoys rack - and just wanting to make sure that if i get this then I will still have full control over the i...

Re: Some help with compressor release on a drum break
Would the automation way be fast enough though? Was wondering about this also; will have a check and get back with results... In the meantime I went with a similar idea to yours Creativemind - created a new track and put duplicate version of the sample on that, but i created a quick volume fade on ...

Some help with compressor release on a drum break
Hi all, quick question on compressor release. I am using a Mace compressor (Airy Drums preset, tweaked a little bit) on a drum break. The compressor is working fairly heavily most of the time to give a slight pumping effect (and it just sounds good on this particular break). I have a fill at the end...

Re: Thanks Propellerhead!
Just echoing the general sentiment here. I got a copy of Reason essentials when i bought Pro tools back in 2006. Tried Reason, never used Pro tools, and have only used Reason since! As a small company Props do a great job of listening to their users, engaging with their community (as they do here) a...

R10 Upgrade: Downloading the additional sounds
Hi all, quick upgrade question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I got the upgrade over the weekend which all went fine. Then once I opened R10 I received the prompt to download the extra sound banks / radical / new instruments etc. Owing to my crap internet and needing to use it for something el...

Re: What Type of Sound Is This and How's It Made?
Just sounds like a gated synth to me. Pretty sure you could get this by finding a similar synth sound, running it through an Alligator and automating the pan... might be oversimplifying things a little but that's what i can hear

Re: (dub stepper) SouthEast dub
Yes! This is great. great bass and the kick is really driving nicely through the mix. Agree with the other two - more on top - but for me it could even just be a few extra stabs with some really protracted, morphing delays (mad professor styles). Great work!

Re: Falling in love with samples
Ya, we should start a song challenge thread before long, it'd help me get better at the art of it including using the diff samplers when appropriate. Though if that previously teased sampler RE comes out soon then that'd be a good opp for that kind of thing as well. Would be well up for this! Eithe...

Hello all, A mostly sampled thing here from me. Kind of lost track of where it was going so I just slapped a limiter on it and called it finished :) All feedback / comments / criticisms welcome. Also if anyone feels like they want the file to have a play for themselves, let me know. Only REs used ar...

I really dig this! particularly the vocal harmonies. but also I think you've definitely got a knack for writing hooks and for the actual structural aspects of writing a pop song with a bit of a journey to it. I remember one of your old tunes with lyrics along the lines of 'if i knew when i was youn...

Re: (Instrumental) The Lake Ahead
yo. I think this is great. all the elements are clear and it's not overstated. My main critique would be that more than 9 minutes is loooooong. i scrolled through and there are lots of different sections to the tune, i just think they take a long time to arrive. but that's clearly a very personal pr...

Re: (Mellow) Long Time Down
Hey dude, I dig the idea you got here. The mix needs work. A couple of things to consider - the mix is dominated by the strings and the guitar sample. Try turning them down and focus on bringing the drums and bass through a bit more - your kick and snare are both lacking power - try layering them up...

Re: Video Serie: Lets explore the depths of the Factory Sound Bank!
the vinyl crackle sample. It looks like you disable stretch and adjust the tempo to make it loop up correctly. and then later on in the clip you seem to timestretch another clip without having enabled stretch again... it's a pretty minor thing so i might just be seeing it incorrectly but in my proje...

Re: Video Serie: Lets explore the depths of the Factory Sound Bank!
nice one man. i'm also guilty of not exploring the FSB as much as I should. some of those sounds were great. Also I picked up two thing from watching you work - setting loop points within the sample for the nn19 and disabling stretch to create the loop. excellent. the only thing is i didn't see you ...

Re: (hip hop/beats) Beats that were gathering dust
Nice work the mixes sound good on my Yamaha's. I think they are arranged more as standalone istrumentals but if you had a rapper in mind you may want go for a 16 bar verse/8 bar chorus format. I tend to like tuff/hard sounding beats and there were a few parts that flirted with being "ambient" but n...

Re: (rockish) Welcomed
i like it man. Got a bit of the Smiths about it. The structure and progression of the song is really strong and i think the lyrics are great :) I think the mix works really well in some parts but also there were a few moments during the vocal harmonies that i felt like the vocals were sort of compet...

Re: (Funky Downbeat) Audiotic - How was I to know
Hey dude this is cool. I really like the gated sample/synth and I don't think you overdid it with the vocals at all :) One thing that i noticed with your drums is that it sounds like there is quite a bit of reverb on the snare and hats but not on the kick. So when I'm listening it sounds like the ki...

this is great! I'm listening on headphones and the synths are so nice and wide, it's quite an immersive experience really :) I agree with audiotic, I think the drums need to be brought through the mix quite a lot more. The tones of the drums themselves are great, they are just lost. Maybe if you fee...

Re: How much parallel processing is too much?
Nice one Selig, yep will keep going - and also when I say I EQ them i just mean sometimes if I wanted to use distortion or reverb on only a certain section of the sound then I would eq to keep it cleaner... but otherwise everything gets routed back to a bus for the EQ process. Thanks!

How much parallel processing is too much?
Recently I've taken to parallel processing in a big way. I've used parallel comp on my drums for a long time, but only recently begun to extend it to all sorts of sounds in my tunes. Particularly I find it helpful with reverbs and delays as it allows one channel of dry signal and one of completely w...
