Re: Video: Why Your Favorite Musicians Are Broke

In fact, spend some time in the studio that the label pays for, and if your records don't sell - you ended up in debt to the record company! :o :? Sure - everyone should read "The Problem With Music" by Steve Albini, which was written near 20 years ago... https://thebaffler.com/salvos/the-p...

Re: Video: Why Your Favorite Musicians Are Broke

But it also bears repeating that as of today, it has never been easier to be an independent musician/producer/whatever you want to call yourself and keep 100% of your money selling your music while having worldwide exposure and access to production tools that would have cost millions of dollars onl...

Speculation: Gated reverb and perhaps a bit of filter/EQ to enhance a particular frequency range.

Re: Blue Monday 1982

Although it is far easier to program a music or rhythm sequence now than it was in 1982, that doesn't mean anyone can just come up with the next Blue Monday. Could anyone else write those lyrics just so? Would they have chosen the same synth patches? Come up with the same melodies? How many songs by...

Re: Auddict PercX

To be utterly honest, I don't know any of the details you've described, because I don't actually own or use PercX - but the steps I previously described are a logical method for tracking down the source of problems. Yes, if you have an option to save patterns in the VST itself, that would preserve y...

Re: Your proudest musical moment of 2020

https://soundcloud.com/platzangst/exit-267 I rather was happy with this whole album generally, but I like the way I stitched the spoken word samples together on this particular track. The original voice is from an old vocabulary/diction album, that uses seemingly generic sentences to demonstrate var...

Re: Auddict PercX

Before, there were drums showing in PercX when I opened it in Reason, now there is not. When saving a Reason project, the PercX drum kit configuration should save as well, so next time the Reason project is opened, the drum kit configuration should also be loaded. So, I wonder if this is one that R...

Re: Auddict PercX

You should be able to find out if you're registered by clicking on the VST's "about" tab, wherever that is - that's usually where registration info is displayed. But, if you can get sound out of it in standalone mode, but not in Reason, then it's probably something in Reason going on. I wonder if wh...

Re: Auddict PercX

Okay, then the next thing I'd do is find out if this is only happening in Reason, or if it also happens in other hosts and/or the standalone mode. If you hear sound from it in other places, but not in Reason, then there may be some sort of problem there to track down, but if there's no sound at all ...

Re: Auddict PercX

Okay, this is kind of difficult to understand, but the first thing I'd do is track down exactly what's going on with "sound as piano". Has the VST been replaced with a different instrument, like perhaps an ID8? Or is the piano sound actually coming from the VST, in which case your issue is most like...

Re: Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

Hope you continue to recover! Your last post was last Friday, so let us know how you are doing. I am optimistic that I'm finally turning a corner on this thing. Up until today, I'd been pretty consistently running a fever, though the actual temperature would rollercoaster all over the place, from a...

Re: Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

I'll just jump back in here to point out that one can't rely on any statistic or trend in the case of this virus. In my own case, I've contracted it despite doing as much of the preventative measures as I could - apart from quitting my job and staying home, there's not much else i could have done. H...

Re: Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

Vit D in milk? Not enough, may provide 50-100IU/d. Majority of people are insufficient and need 5000IU/d for 6-8 weeks to reach a blood value of 50ng/ml. I couldn't say what my vitamin D levels are, of course, not having sophisticated bloodwork tools at hand. But I have been drinking 2 pints of mil...

Re: Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

Well, after a night's sleep I feel much better, though I'm still going to take it easy. As for vitamin D, I have regularly been drinking a couple pints of milk each day, and at least here in the States, a lot of milk brands are fortified with Vit. D (and A, IIRC). I don't have any idea if that has h...

Re: Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

How do you think you got it? Probably at work, if I had to guess. My job never fell under the mandates for closing or working from home (kind of hard to do in manufacturing), and while I was doing my best to observe the proper distancing, and wearing a mask and all, and the plant itself had several...

Well, Looks Like I Have Covid.

Got up this morning and felt like I had a fever. I was up on my flu shots, and so didn't think it was the flu. Went to a place that does rapid testing (15 minutes) and sure enough, it's Covid. Fortunately - so far - it seems to be mild, my only symptoms are currently a fever and sometimes a runny no...

You Learn Something New.

Things connect. In the 80s I became a fan of the band Wire. Wire was a groundbreaking punk rock act in the 70s that quickly mutated into arty pop/rock. They had a hiatus after 3 albums and then reinvented themselves as a more synth and tech-driven art-pop group in the mid-80s, which is when I discov...

Could this be made? Lectric Panda?

Many years ago, there was an interesting and promising video put out about, well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRlhKaxcKpA To try and condense: The software analyzes a chunk of sound, and breaks it into what we'd call "grains" today. Then, live audio is fed into the software, which compares the i...

Re: Issue with Stutter Edit 2

Double-check to make sure you're actually creating a NOTE lane, and not an audio track or automation lane or something else. I've had issues with some effects where Reason assumes that - since it's technically not an instrument - you couldn't POSSIBLY really MEAN that you want to feed it note data.

Thanks Joeyluck, i dont have any trial REs but still this is happening, I'll sync all and see if it solves the issue.
It also happens with "rent-to-own" REs, where you're making monthly payments but haven't fully "bought" the RE yet.

Hm. I filled out the survey. I was struck by how many of the questions just... didn't have anything to do with anything I was interested in, even as regards to my music. I suppose they're aiming for a more professional/industry demographic, maybe, but still, I could have used a number of selections ...

Re: The R2R group announces they have cracked Reason 11

Why, they can still sell their music. Sure they can - if anyone's left to buy after the freeloaders get what they want. But if I put my music on Bandcamp and set a price, then I am setting a value on my work and creativity, and offering the results of my work to anyone else in exchange for that pri...
